Milk intake

Hey! How much milk is everyone’s September 23 babies having in a day? And is it cows/breast or formula milk? My wee girl has a morning bottle (7oz), afternoon (5oz) and bedtime (8oz). I’m assuming health visitor will say this is too much? She has a very varied diet and eats really well (3 meals and an afternoon snack with her cup of milk). Let me know, thanks!

I think if she eats well and has a varied diet then that's fine. I try not to worry too much about what health visitors say tbh as I've found they all say wildly different things about the same issue and some give out very dated advice 🤷🏻‍♀️ My boy has cows milk, is offered 6oz when he wakes in the morning and always drinks it. 6oz in the afternoon but doesn't always drink it. 6oz at bedtime and normally drinks most of it. Again he has a varied diet and eats really well

He also still has the milk from his baby bottle!

My boy loves his milk. He has 2 x 10oz cows milk a day, first thing in the morning and then at bedtime. I know this is probably “too much” but he eats really well and his weight is on track to his percentile x

My son has 3 8oz bottles, 1 before each nap and 1 before bed. He doesn’t have a dummy and before he turned 1 I also BF him to sleep so it’s a source of comfort to him. When he drops a nap I will drop a bottle. I’d say for things like this, as long as they’re eating and not just filling up on milk then you do whatever is best for you 🤷🏼‍♀️

My twins have 150 ml (5oz) cows milk in the morning before breakfast and 150ml just before bed (they don’t always finish that). They still have it from bottles. They’re very big eaters so I don’t offer them more milk x

My little girl has 2 bottles a day, offered 7oz but she won’t always finish them. She’ll have one for a nap in the afternoon and one for bed time. We incorporate a lot of milk/dairy into her foods to cover what she doesn’t drink from the bottle. Take health visitor advice with a pinch of salt, in my experience I’ve had 4 different health visitors and all have offered completely opposite advice to one another. What one will say is not enough another will say is too much! As long as little one is eating well / a good weight and you feel comfortable with what they’re having then just trust your instinct! You know her best x

My boy is on 8oz cows milk when he wakes up. A bottle in the afternoon which varies between 5-7oz and then 8oz before bed. He has 3 meals a day too and isn't overweight.

As of last week my little boy no longer has a bottle at all just milk and water in a cup during the day and now has a supper with a cup of milk and a snack as well as his 3 meals and snacks xx

7oz of cows milk in the morning 7oz of formula early afternoon 7oz of cows milk before bed I asked the HV and she said that’s about right. The 2nd bottle is formula still because it’s easier to take out with us than cows milk x

My boy is on 8oz in the morning and then he can have up to 12oz before bed this last week!! He has 3 meals plus snacks so I know he is having enough food. He also has decent portions 🤣 I dunno if this is a growth spurt thing?!

They need to have 1 pint of milk/dairy a day until they’re 5 so I wouldn’t worry about what they’re having

My daughter has 2 bottles of formula (stage 3) before her nap & before bed both 270ml (9oz) she’s always loved a warm bottle. She has cow milk in eggs or mash & eats cheese & Greek yogurt for dairy. 3 meals all varied with baby snacks & lots of fruit. She also only drinks formula or water with a little pure apple juice. No diluting. I’ve chose to not give her cows milk purely on she loves her formula & sleeping is great so why chance it, never had problems taking it or with nappies. And the thought of warm cows milk icks me & too cold on her wee tummy before bed plus a wee ready made is good when out & about although that’s stage 2. You’ll know what’s best. Different to others but go with your baby. Seeing my hv on Wednesday & I know she’ll support me.
