@Kate he won’t eat pancakes as it’s got the cake/muffin texture he don’t like. I have found the only pasta he will eat is macaroni and I think it’s because it’s small enough for him to pick up and shove the whole thing in his mouth. He use to eat spaghetti but suddenly stopped and never liked any other shape (even though it’s all the same thing🤦🏽♀️). He won’t eat fruit at all because of the texture.. in order for me to get him to eat fruit now I’m mashing them all and he will then have it spooned to him. He loves beans and peas of every kind but I wouldn’t just give them plain but I also don’t have many recipes for them. He will have cow & gate porridge with the fruit in it and then I’ll add puree fruit to that but I have tried giving him flapjacks and he refuses!
@Shay didn’t think of that. Pancakes are just how they sound cakes from a pan 🤦🏻♀️. Mine won’t eat spaghetti either. He loves ditalini pasta because he can pick it up and it slides on a fork really easy. I use Pinterest for lots of recipes
@Kate worst part is that one of his favourite foods leading to his 1st birthday was spaghetti bolognaise so that’s what I made for his birthday! When I took his plate away and made him eat from his high chair table (he would unstick his plate and throw it on the floor every meal) he stopped eating spaghetti.. it could just be the fact there is no plate so I’ll try him again now I figured out how to keep the plate on the table 🤦🏽♀️ he also use to eat pancakes when he first weaned, then stopped eating them for months then I had a brief moment of getting him to eat them again but never touched them since🤦🏽♀️. I’ll check out ditalini (my son don’t use cutlery though).
@JL the only pasta I can get him to eat now is macaroni shells.. doesn’t matter what I do with them but it has to be them🤦🏽♀️ he also won’t eat melted cheese, you have to put the cheese on the side and he will eat that before everything.
@Shay that's something, though, because there are a lot of variations of macaroni shells like red lentil, chickpea, etc. so he can get extra protein and fiber from that and then even if you have to leave things on the side, I would try red sauce, cream sauce, cheese sauce, pesto, avocado and spinach, etc.
@JL yeah I’m not too worried about pastas because I know how to get him to eat pasta with anything now, just has to be macaroni. I bought some star and moon pasta to see if he will give those a go too. His allergic to pine nuts and Parmesan so can’t have regular pesto and I have to make it from scratch which is fine if he eats it, otherwise it goes to waste. He eats all beans and pulses so it’s easy to make combinations for him
Have you tried waffles? Or do you think he won’t like the texture?
@Jenn no I haven’t tried waffles because I can’t find any that are not full of sugar and crap and I don’t have a waffle maker so I have just skipped that.. but I’m looking for more actual food items
My son loves pancake strips. I usually add spinach berries and nuts. Also plums are a favorite. He has been doing great with sandwiches. Pasta and garbanzo beans. Not sure this will work with the texture issues but I find adding baby oatmeal to spoonable foods makes it easier for my son to eat with a spoon and he doesn’t get so frustrated.
