You could give the 4month+ pouches to introduce some new tastes but I would wait until 17th for baby led weaning/finger food. 🙂 My baby was born on 17th May too 🩷
@anon he does sit up now. He sits in his highchair already aswell. I have also moved him into his sitting up pram bit. He been sitting up for some time now.
@Caroline I was thinking of giving him mashed up home cooked bits so carrots Or potatoes Or mashed bananas something like that. Aww birthday twins 😁
@Tasha I think if you fully pureed them like the 4m+ pouches are then it would be okay now but needs to be super smooth and thin. Mine had a little pear pouch today and loved it! x
He will be 6 months on the 17th of November, just go by the 17th of every month as the next month. That doesn’t mean you can’t wean though. Just starts small and you will soon see if he is ready or not 😊
Infact if you click on your peanut profile it gives exact age of 5 months and 2 weeks old
My lg is 24 months and has been on 4+ pouches since 4 months as told to but her paediatrician I’ve started to introduce different textures and this week I’ve included things like avocado spaghetti bolognese she nibbled my toast this morning. It’s scary at first but they love it I have a proper foodie
I started at 4 months with first tastes. The Ella’s kitchen purple book is really good for this. When he turned 5 months I added in some fruit also and then about a week ago I started actual meals like spaghetti bolognaise, curry, fish pie etc. He tends to have toast with beans, yoghurt with fruit or porridge with fruit for breakfasts and around 11 and then his meal in the evening around 5. I think you know when they’re ready to start.
Our LO is 24 weeks on Tuesday, 6 months on the 21st and we started him with his first tastes last week! He was giving us all the signs that he was ready to start, bringing everything to his mouth, showing so much interest in our food, pretending to eat when he saw us eat, sitting up very well supported! So far he’s tried broccoli, carrots & sweet potato (which he loved!) I’ve just been steaming them and then blending everything to a puree! I think shortly after he turns 6 months we’ll start with BLW, but for now just going to stick to purées :)
Him grabbing food isn’t an indication that he’s ready for good, he’s just more aware now and score to grab and reach. Wait it out until you hit 6 months, imo But if he’s about to sit up straight, I can’t see huge harm. Personally, I’d wait it out with mine.
17th May baby here too! Our little man has been ticking all the boxes for being ready for quite a while so this weekend had his first tastes. He barely ate a thing but really enjoyed the textures and getting messy!! Doing a mixture of BLW and purée, basically whatever we eat he can have a taste of (save making separate meals for him to just throw on the floor 😂) I’d say you know your baby best and if you think he’s ready can always offer a little bit and then give it a break if he’s not quite there yet. I don’t think all babies hit exactly 6 months and then all automatically ready for solids, some are ready a bit before and some need to wait a bit longer! x
My baby was exactly the same and I've got one of the Ella's kitchen weaning books that has some suggestions for first tastes to try the weeks leading up to the 26th weeks when technically the health vistors say it's ok to start weaning. Cauliflower, brocoli, avocado, green beans, peas, sprouts, aubergine, butternut squash, courgette, potatoes, cabbage and so on So this week we are starting her on purees of veg we will be having with our tea anyway to get her used to eating together. Then I'm going to start doing a mix of purees and blw from 26 weeks :o She had avocado yesterday as her first thing and absolutely loved it. You won't know if your baby is ready until you try and give them something to eat if they just push it all out with their tongue they might need a few more weeks xx
Our baby girl was also born 17th May. Exactly the same as you described so I thought I’d give it ago (around 1 week ago). I hated the thought of batting her hand away every time she was interested in something I was eating (suitable for her of course) … I’ve not dropped any feeds and she is absolutely loving trying the new flavours and textures. Just a small bowl of mushy food (cauliflower, courgette, broccoli, aubergine, sweet potato etc) and see what happens… Our girl can sit up by herself, she grabbed the spoon on first go so it was quite clear she’s been watching and learning from us so far! Enjoy it, and enjoy the mess, and the poops 🤣👏
Thank you everyone. I made him some broccoli last night and he loved it. I put it in the blender and he fed himself with the spoon. I would say he is definitely ready to start tasting things.

He is not 6 months until 26 weeks. 26 weeks is half a year. So my baby was 6 months on 3rd Nov, born 3rd May. I started a spoonful or 2 of puréed fruit or veg at 5 months but only really started taking it seriously now x
Following up.. wondering the same
