Haha that’s what I’m thinking, I hate the steriliser I have, and my little boy is rarely finishing a bottle of formula now so I’m wondering whether to stop all together soon.
@Rachel my little one is 1 next week. She’s been having some cow’s milk already and so I’ve only got a few cartons left of formula. Shes going off her milk too, so fingers crossed we can make the transition. I know some parents do stop sooner, or possibly after 12 months? I’m hoping it’s just a few more weeks now 😭
From age 1 can transition onto full fat cows milk. My oldest hated cows milk so we swapped him to soya and he loved it. As long as on formula then have to sterslise unfortunately but not long left now. Also apparently it's fine to stop milk at 1 completely if baby doesn't want it as long as eating and drinking and getting dairy, calcium and fat in their diet
Our HV said we could stop at 6 months! So I did! Oops 😬
Genuinely scared for this transition not the going onto cows milk as such but the not knowing if she wants/needs the milk. Also how do we transport cows milk safely when out and about its so confusing 😅 or maybe I'm stupid.
We’ve stopped at 7 months. I mean he licks the walls and eats my slippers, don’t think I need to sterilise the bottles. I use antibacterial fairy though to clean them.
@Weronika formula contains harmful bacteria hence why you must sterilise bottles until formula is fine with. It hasn’t nothing to do with the licking the floors etc.😬
@Lucy I use the mom Cosy breast milk packs to hold cow milk and put a freezer pack in Between it in my purse and I’m not too sure if it’s beneficial or not but I do this to keep milk fresh for long days out. in another thermos carry boiling water to warm the milk up if needed and just fairy liquid in a small momcosy bag too and a bottle of cooled boiled water to wash things up in my collapsing bucket from Amazon
When you stop formula if they are on it. I dont sterilise anything else, unless dummy drops on something bad or is really dirty
My LO is one on Sunday and we changed to cows milk over the weekend as we ran out of formula so I’ve stopped now, he was losing interest in the formula anyway and stopped finishing his bottles and he didn’t seemed phased in the slightest with cows milk in his bottle instead 😂 if anything he drank more!!
MY LO has CPMA and hates dairy free milk alternatives so far so we’re sadly staying on formula! Can’t wait for that steriliser to go into storage one day 😂
@Jasmine but sterilising the bottles has no effect on the bacteria in the formula. Adding formula to a sterilised bottle doesn't get rid of the bacteria in the formula. That's why we used boiling water. Sterilising only kills bacteria on the bottle and teat.
@Jo it’s actually more about the bacteria that can hide in the nooks and crannies once the bottle has had formula/breast milk in it even once cleaned because it can make babies really ill. How likely that is, I’m not sure but sterilising will kill all the micro-organisms… and I have read somewhere licking things off the floor isn’t as risky as the bacteria from used bottles .. apparently
@Jasmine I wash the bottles with hot water and antibacterial liquid. This is what i do and my boy is healthy. You do as you wish

We stopped at a 1yr with my first and then 6 months with my second. We also have a dog that likes to kiss my kids faces so didn’t see the point in sterilising 😬
As soon as baby is off formula. And it can’t come soon enough 🤣
