Bath time tips for one very stressed mama and baby

So my 8 week old hates the bath. Screams the place down. Tonight it almost made me cry. She’s not in for long. We set the temp at 37. I put a muslin or facecloth over her to keep her warm. Try calming words etc etc but she just absolutely hates it and it seems to be getting worse rather than better. Anyone any tips?! Photo of her much more contented self

I would go warmer water, along with the other advise! Instead of doing anything right at the start, just hold baby so they're body is under the water, and move them gently side to side so the water is washing over them, and just keep that going through the initial crying and see if they settle after a few minutes. Don't try and put them in the bath and start washing them or anything, take the first 5 minutes to sway from side to side in the water. You can also put pumped breastmilk in the bath or on a cloth (good for the skin but also the baby knows that smell and it can be comforting). Also, not all babies enjoy bathtime so hopefully you find what works for you both, but if she never likes it that's ok!

Agree with everyone else on a degree warmer. We go with 38 as our LB screamed the place down at 37, we think he was just cold. Also constantly scoop the water onto them, it helps keep them warm ❤️

I was gonna comment as the others have. My little boy was the same, screamed the house down every time I tried bathing him. Put me off doing it tbh. But I made it warmer and he was loving life. I just have a basic thermometer that suggests a “happy range” for baby bath and I made it top end of that (so 38/39c)

Mine is the same. Doesn’t like baths. I’ll also try the slightly warmer method and get a hammock. My baby bath is one molded plastic so really uncomfortable. My mum said to dangle feet and hands in the water first to get them accustomed to the water before popping them in. This has worked slightly and he doesn’t cry unless you surprise him or he leaves the bath

What type of bath is she in? We tried a small baby bath at first and our son hated it as I think the water was cooling down too fast. As soon as we put him in an angel care bath support seat in the main bath he loves them.

Some babies hate baths, they feel too exposed. Try baby bath bucket like 'TUMMY TUB' or Shnuggle bath... it makes them feel more cosy, more secured feeling. Reminds them of their original home in our tummies :)

Also remember babies don't need a bath everyday so if your LO isn't loving it just give them twice a week.

Thanks everyone! I definately will look at the supports. She likes her comforts and I think she absolutely hates the hard plastic. Will also try temp a wee bit higher
