Birthday / Christmas traditions

Would love to hear your traditions growing up and any you’ll be doing with your kids. I didn’t have many growing up, 1 present on Xmas eve which mum chose and it was usually pjs. We also did table presents for Xmas dinner.

I don’t think you need loads of traditions, I didn’t have any birthday traditions so don’t really have any in mind we went to an animal park last year and might do the same one this year for her birthday. Christmas wise I think we’re trying to start our own family flow

The only one growing up I can remember is stockings on the bedroom door, which we still do. We also do stockings for everyone in the house here. So hubby will fill mine and vice versa. Christmas eve I usually do baking with the kids (something like Christmas cookies) and then my eldest will give those as gifts. We also do Christmas eve boxes with new pjs, some sweets or popcorn, maybe a blanket or something like that. And then we'll watch a movie together. I might put in an activity book this year for LO instead of sweets. Then on Christmas morning our tradition is to have freshly baked chocolate croissants. I will always buy my eldest a board game and we will play that during the day ☃️🌲⭐🎁🔔🎅

Every year on Christmas Eve, we’ll do something called “Cous-mas”. All of our friends have kids the same age, literally weeks apart 😂 so we’ll take it in turns to host everyone around for dinner, let them open a present etc. A lot has happened this year for a few of us so we’re going to probably do it for New Years.

We do Stockings on the door also. Every year we all pick a special bauble each for the tree so over the years the tree ends up like a story for each bauble x

@Emily ahh we use to do the bauble one as kids with my grandparents 🥰 definitely gonna start that one with mine x

@Shana that sounds lovely, I wish my friends had children so I could do this, my daughter would love 💕

@Ru these are all nice, the board game is a good idea! x

I’ve seen a few birthday traditions that i like: Printing out one photo from each month of that year, you lay them out on the floor in a circle and they walk round the circle for the number of years they are. A nice way of thinking about all they’ve done and achieved in the year. Doing a birthday interview and videoing it, same questions every year. E.g. what’s your favourite food, what’s your favourite toy. I know answers will be hit and miss this year, but will be fun to look back on.
