Is your baby formula fed or breastmilk? My boy is 5 weeks old today and usually have around 3oz when we give him breastmilk on a bottle. I feed him every 2-3 hours throughout the day. Now I’m worried if my LO is not eating enough. I read somewhere that breastfed babies usually drink the same amount for a long time because the body adapts to fill the baby’s needs. But idk if that’s true
@Isa my baby is on formula, i read that they tend to drink more than breastfed baby’s. he went onto 3oz around 2 weeks but soon moved onto 4oz. if your little one hasn’t dropped below their birth weight and are having regular wet nappies and bowel movements there shouldn’t be anything to worry about! if you are concerned mention it at baby’s 6-8 week check
My son is 5 weeks old, he drinks 4 Oz of formula every 3-4 hours!
@Huney. my boy gets fussy on his bottles sometimes and can take over 30 mins to drink one bottle so thought he was ready to go up to a size 2 but we tried him yesterday and he was dribbling a lot of the milk out so i take it he’s not ready yet? he’s been a very sicky baby until we changed his milk last week and it seems to have improved, i wondered if that was to why he was drinking so much
If I were you, I’d go up a size and just see if it works better in like a week, it definitely was what my son needed. I’d just keep trying different things, maybe the type of bottle too?
My son stays at the premie nip size cuz he is a guzzler. I thought moving him up a bigger size would be okay but he ended up making himself choke multiple times from drinking too fast. My boy drinks probably about 30-40 oz a day. He is 8 months now. He also has one or two tubs of purees. And daily I give him something he can hold onto himself and eat and chew on and nibble on. Like bread, pancakes, apple slices, banana slices, etc.
That sounds normal! By time my son hit 5 months he was having 60 ounces a day. We started on a size 2 nipple around 2-3 months. It was mostly because he would get super fussy. I was told let a baby have as much as they want as long as they were actively throwing up (more than a bit of spit up) after every feeding. I was told as long as they were gaining weight, it was okay for them to spit up a bit but it shouldn’t projectile
