You are legally entitled to paid time off for antenatal appointments
The company you work for have to give you paid time off for appointments they aren’t allowed to refuse, I would definitely contact your HR department. I had the same issue where my manager was reluctant to give me the time off I needed but when I contacted my HR department they just automatically took me off the shifts and put me down as paid requested days off. Your health and baby is more important than your job!
@Jordan yes we have HR and it’s not a small company it’s a big energy firm. I can’t believe they’re treating me like this and this is exactly why I waiting months to tell them about my pregnancy I knew I’d get treated like shitt it’s not fair
@Nicole I can’t believe the last part I’m shocked cause he makes me give time back sometimes. Like if my appointment is a longer appointment I have to work it back
@Jordan one of my colleagues who started this job with me is getting a pay rise soon because we were promised a pay rise after a certain time. I knew for me they’ll come up with some excuse and not give it to me as I haven’t heard anything
Definitely illegal, I would raise to HR linking to the article of your rights
You need to play the discrimination card, I know it’s something you probably don’t want to do but that’s exactly what your manager is doing and if you don’t get a pay rise that would be the icing on the cake. Companies face massive fines when it comes to the laws around pregnant women & their rights. stand up for yourself & your wee baby always xo
Yep. Definitely illegal. Contact HR.
100% illegal, you're due paid time off not just for the appointment but your travel time there and back as long as it falls within your normal working hours. Go over your manager's head to HR. It still needs to be approved and they just don't tick the evidence seen box until they see the evidence, that can be backdated for the times you don't receive letters until after the appointment - it's SUCH a non issue and company policy does not supercede the law. I'd go one step further and express the hurt and upset your manager has caused and stipulate that they must receive training on managing pregnant employees and the rights of expectant mothers.
Oh god just seen the pay rise bit 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ it's so illegal!!! That part is incredibly hard to prove though unless you have it in writing somewhere. The appointments being approved you could tackle on your own but the pay rise bit you will need extra support from someone like pregnant then screwed or maternity action x
@Jordan thanks love ❤️ I feel better knowing I’m not in the wrong. I will speak to HR
@Adele thank you. I’m going to contact HR and hopefully get it sorted with them
Definitely contact HR, document as much as you can and tell them you would like to raise a grievance against your manager due to the discriminating behaviour you have been subject to.
That’s outrageous that he wouldn’t let you go to triage. That’s a situation where you need to get checked proof of appointment or not it’s your babies well being. Definitely go to hr, he needs a serious word having with him on how to conduct himself in the workplace.

He cannot deny you access to antenatal appointments. Make sure you document it (follow up conversations with an email if necessary) and contact your HR.
I also work for an energy company. My manager tried suggesting I make up the time taken for antenatal appointments until I said I'd check with HR. Suddenly its fine 🙄 Some companies are just shady. Do your own research, document everything, and dont trust them to not screw you over.
This is insane and illegal. Take action and get this wanker shut down x
He sounds like an arsehole I’ve never once been asked for proof of an appointment I just let them know I have one and that’s that there’s no drama. Sounds like he’s on a power trip you should put a complaint in with HR
Illegal.
Also do you have bager notes? All my apps are on that
Hi! I am a multiple business owner with a HR department and I can tell you now it is illegal. If it was me I would send a request and go anyway if they decline it, it is for your and the babies health. If they don’t pay you or pull you in for a meeting please document everything and bring someone to the meeting with you. For a large company I would also recommend joining a union as they can be with you and they know a lot X
Straight to HR and tell him in an email with them copied into it that it is your legal right and you will be attending regardless of his “approval”.
Another thought tho for proof (not that it is even slightly legal to ask!) but all my letters get uploaded onto the NHS app as soon as they book an appointment for me, worth downloading and looking to see if yours do too?
Oh my goodness this is disgusting! I would 100% raise this with HR as he has absolutely no right to refuse you leave for appointments. Worst case, go and get a letter while you’re there that you can take back to him. Unbelievable!!
This is literally illegal! You are entitled to all appointments paid time off. I would seek advice from citizens advice and report to HR if you have that? But I know for a fact what he is doing is illegal!
