Tongue tie

Our baby has a tongue tie, he is both breast and bottle fed and the tounge tie doesn’t effect feeding. He can also poke his tongue further than his gums so paediatrician told us he won’t have speech problems. But I can’t help but to think I should cut it. Opinions?

I thought the same they found a sliiiiiight tongue tie at the back. So slight. But said if it doesn’t affect feeding they won’t refer for cutting. Thankfully it didn’t. But I do wonder what happens if it starts to, because there’s usually a cut off time. And referral wait times are soooo long

@Immy My little ones is right at the front , they scored it a 4/10 though so i’m assuming not too bad! They offered to cut it in hospital as we were there for a little while but due to the trauma both me and baby endured I thought it was cruel to add more. I’m not sure whether I made the right decision for his future. I hope so!

4 sounds low so I’d relax :) always tough to know what to do such huge decisions were responsible for!

My little one had a complete tongue tie and had it cut at 3 days, they then realised there was still a bit further back and he scored a 4 but decided to cut it again around 9 weeks! I personally wouldn’t say it’s cruel and he got over it within a minute or two!

We had our little ones done at 6 weeks and he was over it within a minute. If you do have it done I'd say the sooner the better because he had to completely relearn how to feed afterwards due to the change in function, but he was quite restricted so might not be so bad if it isn't too terrible!

@Evie-Marie was your little one in pain in the days after the surgery? or was he just distressed in the moment? We have our appointment this friday and just wondering if he will be in pain when feeding long after?

Thanks all! Doctor reassured me that he will be fine as it’s not a bad tie and is feeding great in breast and bottle along with poking it beyond the gum♥️

@Klaudia not at all, he had it done, I breastfed straight after and he was fine! A tiny cry from the bed to the breast and he was okay! I think it’s more traumatic for us parents if I’m honest 😅
