KIT/SPLIT days

Hoping to get some direction on how and when I should use these days if anyone can help🤗. For context I’m a secondary school teacher- Geograpgy and Sociology and HOY 10. I should be returning to work June 2025. Does anyone have any advice or experience with using KIT/SPLIT days?

Following! I’m due back in April and my head isn’t responding to my emails

I used my KIT days with my first for training days and covering other staff when they went on training (I'm a SEN primary teacher) I did I KIT day a week for the final month before returning (covering PPA in my 2 classes) so children got used to me.

I found it difficult to get much response from my school about what they wanted me to do on KIT days but they were open to me doing them, so in the end I decided just to come in and do one and work would probably reveal itself. Sure enough, in discussion with my colleagues it soon became clear what I could do that would be helpful! I don’t remember everything that I did but I know I developed some answer sheets for lesson materials that didn’t have any, worked with a colleague to boost her knowledge of the A Level NEA, did some online CPD, etc. Also I used one KIT day to attend the staff conference 😊

Ask if you can do some of your KIT days from home - I did one day a week for a half term but from home just catching up on emails, planning for the new term etc.

I’m due to go back April. But probably 3 days a week. Just going to do 3 a week for 2 weeks when my maternity ends. Then go back after my kit days
