Water overnight

My combination fed baby is having 250ml of formula before bed than another 500ml of EBM or formula in the night. Our HV said when she wakes at night to give her water instead. For those that have tried this did you put the water in their usual cup (Tumtum straw cup for us) or did you give it in a bottle? I wouldn't mind if she just woke for milk once or twice but it's every hour which seems a lot at this age. She also has about 300ml EBM during the day, 3 meals and snacks. Water offered regularly in the day. This started when I took her dummy away so I think she's replaced sucking the dummy with sucking the bottle for milk. I think I've gone wrong somewhere and feel really sad and stuck and exhausted.

I sit my little one up, and offer her water in an open cup, then cuddle her back to sleep , she usually takes her water in an open cup though, so preferably use the tum tum straw cup

You haven’t gone wrong anywhere, sounds like you’ve done a brilliant job meeting all of her needs! We are still finding the balance between not giving too much milk at night (tbh we haven’t found a balance whatsoever) but I’m not getting stressed about it. I think in the grand scheme of things if it takes us a bit longer to figure out no harm is done by my LO drinking more milk! Hope you are okay and get some sleep soon!

Thank you both 😊
