I was told by my midwife to have half a banana and ideally pair it with a protein like a slice of cheese. Bananas can be quite sugary. I haven't been able to have a sandwich, but usually can manage 1 piece of brown/rye bread without sugars going over
It’s so hard I know ❤️ don’t feel like you can’t eat though, you absolutely should regardless of your levels. I would say out of experience to avoid bananas or have them when they’re green rather than ripe. 9.9 is high but it sounds like your sandwich was a good choice. Your diabetes team will probably advise you to eat half a sandwich and then the other half later on (I got told to do this with toast). Even though it’s a very small portion!! Try not to stress, it could also be a one off. See what they’re like tomorrow if you eat that again and then go from there xx
In my case I cannot handle bread, any type even half slice will spike my sugar level but with fruits I don't have any problem as long as I eat them as snack and nothing else together. Give it a go like this.
We are all different and our bodies react different as well for example I can not eat any fruit because it spikes it really bad however I can eat bread and potatoes and it seems alright so yeah try to avoid bananas as well as they are very sugary perhaps try blueberries or kiwis and see how that goes also make sure you hands are clean before testing... I had a high reading of 10 and turns out I had a bit of blueberry juice on my finger 😂😊 best of luck you will be fine ❤️
It’s honestly so stressful when the levels are high. I’m sorry you are going through that. I think Banana’s have a higher glycemic index. So they can make your sugar levels go higher. If having a banana maybe have half. Berries are low on the glycemic index and so are apples and pairs. I was advised to check my blood sugar Levels 2 hours after a meal. I have been mixing the fruit with foods higher in fat and protein as well. For example I have half a cup of pot set yoghurt with half a cup of blueberries for a snack. That would reach 30grams in carbohydrates with snacks. I’m sorry you are having this struggle. GDM is such a hard thing to manage. I hope it all calms down for you.
i feel the same when i see a high reading i feel stressed and anxious about the next reading. it really does depend on your body. as pregnancy hormones also contribute to sugar levels. if you have any issues contact your diabetic nurse. they will guide you with your diet and or other dietary guidelines
