Weaning advice

My almost 7 month old is just not interested in food at all. I’ve tried Blw and purées, I’ve tried so many different foods , I’ve tried being consistent in one food and he’s just not having it. He’ll open his mouth for the first bite but after that he will seal his mouth shut. He had banana this morning and had some in his mouth started coughing, gagging and then vomited. A bit lost on what to do.. has anyone experienced similar?

I'd say contact HV. Does he play with food?

Yes my baby turned 7 months yesterday all he wants is breast and what I eat ( which has salt so he is not allowed) but i got some kids snack and give him as finger food ( crips and biscuit) he seems to like it but nothing else

Food before 1 is just for fun so I really wouldn't worry. Some babies take to solids slower and that's fine

Our baby is exactly the same. Purées have been a complete fail but we just keep offering the same fruit and vegetable in different ways e.g. pureed, as finger food and in one of the baby food feeders. He at least gives it one try each time so I am just going to keep offering it to him and hope that he will be more interested soon x

Food before 1 is just for fun, so don't worry too much x

@Rasa yeah he plays with it

My LB had absolutely no interest until about 10/11 months, I kept offering things here and there but much preferred milk until then! Just keep offering is all you can do and he’ll take to it eventually! He still doesn’t eat much now tbh and he’s 15 months, knows what he wants and what he doesn’t that’s for sure 🤣 x

With your baby being so young I wouldn’t worry too much. I’d say try to eat at the same time to boost that interest in food, I’m not fully on the side of food before 1 is just fun because there are important oral developments that eating solid food helps with and there’s enough data to show that weaning on solid foods can help with picky eating in later life. I would have a look at solid starts and implement a routine that you stick to where you focus on him just trying foods and not so much the volume that he consumes. Also see how much milk he’s having because my LO was less interested in eating when he had milk.
