@Alana amaaazing!!! Im so happy for you Alana.. what a wonderful turn of events 💗 this is a bit shocking to me because .. someone who tried for over a year and then be told to wait another while not even being sure itll work is torture. I learned this year how little OHIP covers our medical needs. We are basically paying the staff with all the taxes not treatments. Im so disappointed ☹️
Heck, my work insurance covers $18K for fertility. I thought “great! There’s IVF paid for”. But no. It’s $18K in drugs alone. Not treatments. So every needle and pill was covered but sperm wash or insemination for our IUIs were not covered 😪 spent like $5K on all our testing and treatments. Not sure where in Ontario you are but I’ve been told you can self refer to fertility clinics. So if your GP is telling you to wait/refuses to send referral, try referring yourselves. But I’ve been told if you’ve been trying 1 year (6 months if 35 years or older) or had 3 or more loses, you should qualify for a clinic.
@Alana im in the GTA! Ontario. But wow.. basically the only thing free is "birthing." This makes IVF sound more stressful than hopeful if i am going to be honest. I am happy that it worked out better for you. I would like to believe that mentally knowing youre on the list probably relaxed you internally. Thats my guess! I do appreciate that you took this time to educate me as well. I am not familiar at all with this topic so it helped give new insight. I also liked the no sugar coating all is perfect on this road denial. It is what it is and its a stressful process that can give hope.
Haha I still had to pay $100 for a private room at the hospital for delivery haha 😂 I’m in the same area. Reach out if you ever want to talk. Our diagnosis was male factor (which is a lot more common than I realized. They always make it sound like it’s the females “fault” in these things). My life is an open book and I like chatting. My friend did IVF with her clinic and is expecting her baby next week. It’s a process but one that’ll be worth it in the end when you get your little bundle of joy.
@Alana thats crazy to be paying for a private room. The newer hospitals usually come with private rooms thankfully. Thanks for this reassurance as well. Im happy for your friend as well 💗 male drs are sometimes discouraging. Mine is a male and I really want to go looking for a female dr as back up. I can barely share anything with him
The doctor did tell me I’d have to get my BMI down under 40 in order to get the anesthesia for the egg retrieval process. So I imagine it isn’t exactly painless. I’ve heard the daily injections can be a lot too. Depending on what medication/stimulant they put you on. We did do 4 IUIs with them before getting pregnant on our own (baby is now 3 months old and thriving) - which I’m open to share if you want to know more about that too.
