We started it from day one. Just little drops you either put in the bottle or or your nipple if breast feeding. But we live in Oregon and vitamin d deficiency is very common. If you are in an area with more consistent sunshine the recommendation might not be as strong.
My little one is 2.5 and I just add a little to his morning bottle of milk. Super easy and he has no problems with it.
We are EBf and I don’t give her vit D but I do take a high dosage a day (12,000iu) myself so it passes to her via my breast milk. There is nothing wrong with starting if you wanted to. Just make sure it’s as natural as possible with no added crap x
Yeah in the UK we don’t get enough vitamin D from sunlight and food so we should supplement, especially over the winter months. If she’s having more than 500ml of formula she won’t need it yet as there’s enough in the formula but if less than it’s a good idea to give her a supplement
Now my little one is over a year he has a mix of breastmilk and cows milk. For the cows milk I use Arla big milk which is vitamin enriched for kids. It has vitamin D in it. Its handy that I don't need to remember to add anything for him.
What makes you not keen?
Yes, everyone should be having vitamin d. Why not give something she needs? It's an essential vitamin that you need for calcium absorption, amongst about a dozen other things. The health visitors know what they're on about
@Dreia from the NHS "new recommendations (July 2016) are that breastfed babies from birth to one year of age should be given a daily supplement containing 8.5 to 10mcg of vitamin D, to make sure they get enough"
I think they say if breast feeding or less than 500ml formula. We didn’t start vitamins until 1 as he was having more formula than that xx
