So much poo!

Hi! Sorry for the TMI you’re (hopefully) about to but looking for some advice! My little boy was born 7th sept and has been exclusively formula fed (cow & gate - mix of powder formula and premade). For the first 6 weeks or so all seemed normal - a little reflux but nothing too excessive, regular poos, fed fine etc. About 6 weeks in, he had a 4 day stint of no poos and appeared rather constipated but this passed on its own. From then he began doing one poo a day (still a normal colour/consistency) for about a week. However this then changed again and he began doing very loose mucusy poos after near enough every bottle; sometimes instantly, sometimes an hour or so after. They started very green but have now gone back yellowy - but the mucusy, watery consistency has stayed. This how now been going on for 10 days. I have done A LOT of googling and don’t seem to be getting anywhere.. He has no other symptoms. No eczema, or rash, or unsettled. Other than some reflux and the excessive amount of watery poops he is perfectly happy. I spoke to a GP 5 days ago who said to ‘wait and see’, given that he is happy in himself but surely 10 days of diarrhoea isn’t good for him or normal, regardless of his calm exterior. Has anyone had a similar experience? Does anyone have any advice? I’ve been down milk allergy/intolerence rabbit holes but given he was fine for the first 6 or so weeks could this be the case? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. Thank you if you managed to get to the bottom of this!

Omg I’m so glad I found your post, I am having the exact same issue! My little girl is 9 weeks this week and has been exclusively formula fed (cow and gate) during this time and used to poo once a day and now this has changed to about 5 and consistency has also changed with mucus too! I have also done a lot of googling and concerned about CMPA. We are currently debating whether to change to another brand, possibly Kendamil.

My little one is 11 weeks, exclusively BF but since having her jabs has been like this. I spoke to GP about possibility me allergy/intolerance but they seems to think it wouldn’t be due to only having one symptom at a time. It’s not every nappy mind but at least 1 a day!

@Fliss im so glad im not the only one! Everything just seems to lead to CMPA but then it also gets ruled out due to lack of other symptoms 🤦🏼‍♀️. Im also considering a change in formula. I’ve done a lot of research on it and am torn between kendamil and aptamil. I think kendamil might be the best option to try given the difference in ingredients but my only concern is how hard it can be to get hold of 🤦🏼‍♀️. Is your little one absolutely fine in themselves too, or has yours come with any unsettled-ness?

@Miri yes I agree! It’s so strange that they have both had an increase in poo between 6-8 weeks bcos everything I’ve read online suggests the number of poos tends to decrease 🤦🏼‍♀️ Yes she’s fine in herself and still as hungry as ever. She’s fussy in the evenings but always has been. When I spoke to the health visitor yesterday, she said everything I described was normal, even the amount and consistency of the poo! Sorry if this is gross but does your baby’s smell really bad as well?

I have an 8 week old who has CMPA, he was having blood in his poo (did also have many other symptoms) so got changed to an allergy formula which was great but now he’s having up to 11 watery and mucous poos a day so think we are going to have to go to an amino acid formula because I think he’s still allergic. Got an appointment with a paediatrician at the hospital on the 20th so will see what they suggest (only got this appointment because of the blood). It’s a minefield trying to figure out the symptoms! I think the only reason we got the doctors to agree with us was because the health visitor was also backing us up and she was quite strong that she thought it was CMPA. Maybe give the health visitor a call, I know sometimes they are hit and miss but mine has been so helpful through this process.

@Megan thank you! I’m starting to think it’s not CMPA just because he literally has no other symptoms - everyone else/everything I’ve read seems to say that it would be more than just sudden diarrhoea. So odd! I hope your little one gets sorted though 🤞🏼
