Diagnosed at 17 with PCOS. 10 years later I had another ultrasound and no cysts found. Ended up taking Metformin for weight loss and got pregnant. None of my ultrasounds show multiple cysts. There was one on my left ovary but that’s it. I seriously think I just have insulin resistance. My sugar levels are always super low. I think they should do more before giving that diagnosis.
I was diagnosed 20 years ago and again 15 years ago when I started trying to get pregnant, and I have definitely had issues with cysts and conceiving, and my blood tests support the diagnosis. Chlomid and metformin to get my first, then surprise when I was eating extremely healthy and exercising like crazy only 6 mo after the first, then I couldn't ever get pregnant again
@Mary honestly was considering this. My dr is a male and acts soooooo unconcerned of everything. Im even reluctant to ask for extra testing since im worried he will most likely say "wait a year first." As if hes paying for the tests himself. For the TTC... did you take anything??
@Kaneisha is metformin taking forever? And while pregnant too? How does it work? And i live in canada so im wondering if I can just request a insulin resistance check up? Btw did it help with weight loss? It may help me
@Niki when you took those prescriptions.. was it during pregnancy too? And how is it taken and how often?
I’m not sure! I stopped taking the Metformin two weeks before I conceived in May but I had been on it since December. They told me to stop all meds if I got pregnant. I’ve read that taking it in pregnancy is ok but I’m not sure since it was not prescribed to me for that. I took Metformin along with other weight loss meds and loss only a few pounds. I was told I could still take with Ozempic but I stopped when I started taking Ozempic (which I only took for a couple of weeks because I found out I was pregnant). Metformin definitely helps with cravings and such so it can definitely help with weight loss but the stomach issues are the main reason many people can’t or don’t take them. After about a week the symptoms go away.
@Kaneisha I understand. Basically it is not related to fertility. My cousin was told to take metformin if she wanted to have kids because she was diagnosed with pcos. Im not sure if she took it or not or how long it took her TTC (not close with her). But she also said her dr said "she will never have kids" but is 8 months pregnant now. So obviously we cant always relay on drs
Right. Metformin helps egg quality. I will tell you this. I ended up having a miscarriage at 18 weeks with that pregnancy due to something unrelated. I had a suspicion the Metformin helped me to conceive so I restarted it the day my first period returned and conceived again. So it’s different for everyone but I know it helps with conception. At least it did for me… twice 😉
I stopped the chlomid. I think they had me stay on metformin to wean off slowly, but then stopped. I took metformin again a couple years after my kids when i was ttc again and not on birth control, never got pregnant but hubs was also mostly sterile and I still take it for help with insulin resistance and also on birth control and spironolactone too. Depending on the dose, right now I do 500mg (1 pill) per day with food. Gotta build up to it though because it causes stomach issues
@Kaneisha thanks!! Ill keep it in mind!
@Niki the good thing is you know why it didnt happen. Im still wondering when if itll happen so far. I might ask for a check up for insulin resistance and hormonal imbalance just to be sure if it plays a role in conceiving. I really hope i share my baby news soon 😭
Wishing all good baby news for you
You have the right to ask for a woman. Honestly I was scared to but one I did things started happen and I got tests straight away and I really got listened too. If not you can always try icash. They no help with more then just stds xx
I was told at 18 I had it alongside endometriosis. I was told for 10 years I would never be able to conceive naturally. I was re scanned at 29 and was told I have had any and in fact I have a healthy womb. A month later I was pregnant with my little boy (was the best surprise ever) I hate that woman are just shrugged off when it comes to periods or anything hormonal. We know our bodies and we know when things Arnt right! Make sure you get a second opinion and ask to be seen by a woman because they understand x
