Changed bottles

So we were using mam bottles but they were awful, the teat was literally pissing out milk like a water pistol so I changed to Philips Avent, the teat shape is obviously different & now his latch isn’t the best… do you think this will improve over time or will I have to change back? No tongue tie or anything like that, we’re on I think day 2 of owning the new bottles.

I think it will just take some getting used to x

@sarah hope so! X

The avent bottles require a bit more work from what I found (I also have these) baby got used to them eventually once she figured out how to use them.

I had similar with one of my MAM bottle teats, but only one which was super strange. I tended not to use that one though & it was okay. Weirdly enough, the bigger MAM bottles measurements are wrong 🤷🏻‍♀️

What size teat was the mam one? My son finds it such an effort to get anything out of a size 0 teat can’t imagine it pissing out all over the place!

The lactation consultant had me use Dr Browns for my baby girl to learn to latch. She mentioned avent didn’t have nipple shake and Dr brown would help her since we are doing combo feeding. Although it has more parts to wash it honestly worked. She’s good now and paces herself slowly

I’m at a loss with the mam bottles the 0 years are too slow for him but the still manages to choke same the the 1 teats issue is I can’t swap them because he only takes flat teats 🙈

@April it was only size 2! I hateee them 😂

@Amy ugh such a pain! 🙃😂 my boy will drink a bottle in 5 mins he guzzles it up so quick so that’s another reason I prefer this bottle as well as it not leaking

@Artemisa hey could you link me to the ones you used? Trying to get my breastfed baby onto a bottle but she’s not sure how to drink from a bottle x

I think maybe you had a bad batch are always find mam bottles great

@Emily oh well you could have just gone down a teat to 1 rather than get all new bottles, my son was over a year old and still using teat 2!

Will likely need some getting used to xx

Were you using 0 tits on the mam bottles?

@Emily my LG never made it passed size 2 teats with MAM as it was too fast so we kept her om 0 or 1 until she was ready to move up

@April he was on 1 before and took too long to drink x

@Briony no, 2 but that’s cause others were too low

For reference this is what the mam ones did, it wasn’t due to the teat size, they were just faulty

@Emily tricky, was he not taking to it? The 0 tits are supposed to be similar to the flow of a nipple so they just have to work a bit harder and it does take a bit longer to feed but does help with reflux because they are not guzzling.

We use Dr Brown! I notice when we use the Avent bottles as a one off, baby boy doesn’t latch it well and milk goes everywhere

@Briony we were on 0/1 whatever the first one is for tommee tippee then switched to mam and went straight to 2 but the flow was just broken it’s not cause of the size if that makes sense, I’m looking Philips though cause they are lighter and the teat isn’t broken 😂x

I always find if I make a fresh bottle from the kettle they’re like this I press the teat at the bottom to get the air out and it’s fine, It doesn’t do it if I use ready made formula etc so I just assumed it was trapped air/explansion

NUK First choice + are great, in my opinion. Just in case that’s of any interest.

I’m an infant feeding coach and I often recommend the lansinoh teats, though we must make sure we get baby to ‘latch’ onto the teat and get a good seal with their lips not tucked under! X

I bought the ones you have but the lactation consultant recommended Evenflo to get a better latch.

Make sure you line out the ventilation hole in the teat with the hole in the white ring. This should be under baby’s nose while you feed. Game changer for us when we found out!

@Elvira what does this do? Help air get out? Thanks for explaining :) we have the same bottles but I didn't know to assemble them this way

I'll add that a lactation consultant also recommended Evenflo to me when my baby went on a bottle strike. It ended before I bought them and tried tho

@Emily this also happens with my size 1🫠

@sarah https://www.target.com/p/dr-brown-39-s-anti-colic-options-narrow-baby-bottle-newborn-gift-set-0-6m-pink/-/A-52810901#lnk=sametab The lactation consultant had me use the premie nipple when my baby 0-1 month. I’m just transitioning her to size 1 nipples. Here’s the link for the premie nipple if you need it https://www.target.com/p/dr-brown-39-s-preemie-flow-narrow-baby-bottle-silicone-nipple-slowest-flow-2pk-0m/-/A-17303134#lnk=sametab Also make sure when you’re using the bottle that your baby has their lips out like a fish. You don’t want them to get lazy and forget how to latch on to your breast nipple. Don’t let their little lips hide inside while they feed from the bottle.

@Artemisa thank you ☺️ my baby is 6 months now but she was a premie baby. So maybe size 1 might be good for her? Although she handles my fast let down quite well now these days

@Mahima yes! And also feel like it’s easier to get the milk out for baby this way 😊

@sarah yes maybe try the nipples it comes with bcus Dr brown nipples have a fast flow regardless.
