This has become a hot button issue for our family so curious what others experience

Not intentionally, they buy the kids an outfit or toy when they go shopping and see something they'd like or was on sale and then give it to us when we see them next but they're never thinking "Oh we're visiting so we need to get the kids a gift!"

Yeah it does get annoying because my girl sorta expects now which is turning her a bit spoiled x

Everytime my mum visits or we visit she gets her something but it’s like mainly because we have a lot of boy babies in our family and my daughter is one of the few baby girls and she loves buying baby girl things so she goes over board. My husbands parents not as much tbh. Just sometimes

My mum works in a charity shop so she always has a pile of things for him every time she visits 😂

Never, not even on my kids bday

My MIL does yes

@Amy this is exactly my worry!

@Chí yes my MIL is the same, the buying “girl stuff” makes her lose her damn mind 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yup lol

Not every visit, but not just at holidays/birthday either. They see her at least once a week and I’d say once a month or so there is a new toy, book or clothing. The toys and books stay at their house and I don’t mind that, but I have asked them so many times not to buy her clothes, I usually donate it cause it’s never cute 😅

My mum works in a charity shop so she tends to pick up random bits for my daughter most weeks. But I wouldn’t call them gifts

They buy them as and when but will buy things around special occasions

I live with my parents and they buy a lot for my son without me asking, also my grandparents (babies great grandparents) buy his formula and nappies every week for me.

Brings books, every time. After a year or so I put my foot down and made her stop. All the bookshelves are full.

My mom brings by a random assortment of snacks and a few staple items of our fridge It’s genuinely helpful

My mum is always buying something for my little boy. I have to say to her that as much as it is appreciated, her presence is appreciated more. My husband's parents only buy him something for his birthday & christmas, really. Unless they go to a car boot sale & see a cool toy that they think he would like, then they will buy it for him.

@Scarlett why wouldn't you call them gifts?

@Rhiannon yes this is my problem right now, the buying of things that aren’t even useful. Like buying her a cute summer outfit when at that size it’ll be January and in 2 feet of snow 🤦🏻‍♀️ makes me feel like they are just buying to buy random crap

@Parker 又 that does sound so helpful! 💕

@Taline she brings cute clothes she finds occasionally too! And she does mainly a good job at actually buying things we’d put our son in ahahahhaha

@Taline everyone told me “just take one photo in it, make the in-laws happy” with the clothes, but after receiving MULTIPLE “my first Christmas” outfits on BOXING DAY last year, I refuse to humour them 😂😂 And I think MIL is getting the message, although who knows what this Christmas will bring!

Everytime I see my aunt and uncle they have boxes of clothes and toys for my daughter 😭😂 she loves it though

Yes when he was a newborn but not now he’s just turned one. But we do see them very often so I wouldn’t expect them to

Yes but we live about 12 hours apart so we only visit for holidays and birthdays really anyway

My mom visits every 2 months and brings heaping bags of hot garbage every time . Some old cigarette blow out used baby clothes from donation bins . So annoying

My parents visit maybe quarterly they live in the Virgin Islands so we don’t see them often. My husbands family we are no contact so it’s just my grandparents & they will buy him things if they see something at the goodwill while thrifting but it’s not a normal thing.

They’ll usually ask if we need anything before coming

My in laws are amazing, they bring gifts whenever they visit us. But they also send things regularly and usually ask if we are running low on anything or need/want anything
