Formula

Long one! In a few weeks I’ll be going to a Christmas party and drinking for the first time since before I got pregnant. I don’t drink casually or frequently but when I do, I often get drunk and I’m wanting to at this party. I’m a lightweight so this could mean I only need a few drinks. Because of this I plan to sleep on the couch and not interact with baby until the next day when I’m sober. I ebf and am very anxious about it. I’ll wait until the alcohol is out of my system to feed, for baby’s safety as well as unknown alcohol content of the milk. My husband will be taking the night shift with baby. I’ve been trying to express to build a supply so he can use my breast milk but I find it hard to find time to pump during the day and only pump 1-2 ounces (which I know is normal). Baby was combi -fed for a few weeks after birth and used to be fine with formula but last time we gave it to him (two weeks ago when I was at a dance class), he was constipated and irritated for a day and a half afterwards. I’m just looking for some advice really. I feel bad for my husband, despite him being amazing, who will have to struggle to settle baby anyway, I don’t want to add on top of that feeding worries. Is it worth using formula anyway and the three of us suffering a little over the next few days?

Maybe you can drink those legendairy capsules it helped me boost my milk supply. But Ive been combo feeding since he was born bc sometimes I wouldn’t pump enough because I would get lazy to wash my pump parts and I have to go to school twice a week. But maybe try different formulas that’s what I did because he stopped wanting it out of nowhere especially if I’m around he just wants breast milk

Use the Karo syrup in the bottle to relieve constipation. My baby would get constipated when I added rice cereal to her bottles, but the Karo syrup really helped her. I just eyeball it, so I don't know the exact amount, but you can do your own research if you want.

@Destiny thank you for the advice - a fairly quick google says it’s not safe / suitable for children! (Although I understand there are differing opinions about what should and shouldn’t be given to babies all over the shop).

@Cindy thank you - it’s less about amount of milk and more about building a routine for pumping. I definitely get lazy with washing and just decide not to pump instead 😭 I will have a think about different formula!! x
