Weaning

My little boy is 6 months and I want to try him with baby porridge. He has a milk allergy and is currently on Aptamil Pepti 1. We’ve been told we have to go to a group to get ideas for weaning etc. That isn’t till 20th Dec and he will be over 7 months then. Do people have any ideas? Our little girl has no allergies so it was so easy weaning her. We started her on banana porridge. Is this okay for my little boy if I mix it with the Pepti 1? Any other ideas that we could try too? I’m so nervous about it but I don’t want to wait. He’s more than ready to wean now 😫

Following advice from our dietician we’ve been using the alpro growing up oat milk in cooking from 6 months. It’s fortified with extra calcium, iodine and vitamins so really good for them. No different to using milk in cooking if they weren’t CMPA at this point ☺️ we’ve found that the oat milk tastes much nicer than her formula too! Our girl honestly eats anything as long as there’s now cows milk in it, we’ve not made any special changes apart from that as she has no other allergies!x

We used aptimal pepti in baby porridge to start weaning you can get dairy free baby porridge or can use normal porridge that's dairy free, try fruit and veg but you can give anything as long as it doesn't have milk in it

We did baby led weaning as recommended by our health visitor so no purées or porridges - straight to sticks of soft veg and fruit! Was the best thing for us as food before 1yo is all about learning to chew and chomp and how far to put food in their mouths without choking. She was picking up peas with a pincer grip at a super young age. They still rely on milk as a source of sustenance for such a long time. A great resource is the solid starts app - shows you how to safely serve all manners of food. Also ellas kitchen used to do a weaning poster to help you remember what they have and havent tried. We quickly ended up just giving her small bits of whatever we were having - dairy free.

Nearly all baby porridge has dairy in so use normal oats to make it and mix with pepti

@YazmynJade if your near a Sainsbury's they do there own brand dairy free porridge

What brand of porridge have people used? I’m so new to this 🙈

@Abbie oh didn't know this with our eldest we just used normal porridge to be safe for him

Don't buy expensive baby porridge, just get normal oats (fine milled) and mix with the Pepti (we're on Pepti too) . Also, don't start with porridge, best to start with green veggies!

I would just blitz up porridge oats and mix with their formula.

I’ve just bought some ready brek and going to mix with his Pepti. Thanks everyone 🥰
