Health Visitor (before baby arrives)

Has anyone had experiences with health visitors? Mine is booked to come to my house and I’m really nervous as I have heard so many horror stories about health visitors! I have nothing to worry about with my house but can’t help overthinking.

I work along side health visitor as an early years so I am able to see their notes. Tbh they are there to support you and answer any concerns. However when they write their notes they would mentioned if the house was clean, if you have a good connection with the baby, if the baby was well dressed and who else was there in the house. I believe they might weight baby and ect…. But overall they want to see your overall wellbeing and the baby so if you have any concerns mentioned to them, write down any questions you would like to ask them cuz I know sometimes it is hard to get in contact with them after the first appointment.

@Mama E what are they looking for before the baby is born?

I had a visit yesterday at 34 weeks pregnant. She was giving me advice on safe sleep, asked about how I was planning to feed, checking how I was feeling and asking whether I had any concerns. She sent me a link to the local health visiting webpage which had electronic leaflets on about everything! It was really nice to be honest to meet a health visitor in person after having my first baby in lockdown.

@Steph sorry I didn’t read the title correctly 😕 I am not too sure tbh I only know about after the baby is born

@Mama E no its my fault i didnt specify originally x

I’ve got mine this week. Was meant to be at the doctors but as I have midwife the day before I can’t walk both days so she’s coming to the house. Not exactly sure why as I didn’t have this with my first baby but they said all pregnant ladies now have an appointment with health visitor before baby comes along to introduce them as they will take over x

Nothing important, came in A bit earlier I think just to see my reaction. Asked her does she want coffee or tea. She gave a few leaflets about vaccination and asked how many rooms in a house, dies my husband or I smoke, nothing to worry about. Conversation took around 5 min she just observed the house ,probably my mental health and thats it😅

I had my visit yesterday I’m 33 weeks, mine was really chilled asking about feeding plans, how my moods were, in general if i had a good support system, talking about safe sleeping, and discussing what will happen at future visits when baby is here. She was lovely i wouldn’t say you have anything to worry about they are there to help you 100%

I never got a pre birth visit as my last baby came early and this time they are just going to come when baby is here. My HV was amazing last time and so supportive as I struggled a little at first, some people have bad experiences and I was nervous last time but I can't say anything bad about mine she is lovely and helped me a lot x
