Strep B test

Did any of you did it privately? I am thinking to ask my midwife can she do it prior giving birth. In mY country it is compulsory around 36-37 weeks, in here they do not take seriously , but as I hear so much cases around i start to think to do it privately.

I got mine done at my week 36 growth scan, I assume I’ll get the same this pregnancy too. Also if you have a Caesarian it’s part of your swab samples at your pre op

They found it at my booking appointment in my urine they sent off. Had to have antibiotics and now I got a nice yellow sticker . Ask them I'm sure they won't mind

Mine was negative in my urine sample but because I had it with my first pregnancy we did a swab at 35 weeks. (I think 36 weeks is the norm). It came back positive so it’s weird to think how many times people don’t get the test done and they’re carrying it

I don't think it is offered routinely because you could have it one day and not the next so it is kind of pointless. I had it last pregnancy (found in urine) and have declined a swab this time for the reason above, will just be having ABX in labour!

If you see a midwife with “infection” type symptoms thrush/bv the swab they do will check for group b strep as well, this is how I found out with my first…I had thrush and she told me I had group B strep too, so if you want a test that’s one way to get one xx

@Shelby i don’t think it will go just like this, if the rest of the world uses antibiotics before giving birth …

I still have to have antibiotics when I go into labor because I'm now known to have it but don't call them until my water breaks. Whi h is part of the reason I'm thinking abojt going down the elective route

@Sam how did you got to be tested? I spoke today with my midwife she nearly made a joke of me…

It was found in my urine sample at my booking appointment. So was issued with antibiotics and given a sticker for my notes and told after having baby she'd have to be monitored for 12 hours and to call up when my waters break as I'll have to be given more antibiotics to stop it passing on to baby. They give them as a precaution once it's been found. It's new in the UK as they didn't do it when I had my first in 21 as I asked about it then. It is something that can come and go at anytime. Get it documented that you want to be tested
