Employer is driving me insane

Just a rant really. I put in a flexi working request which I was told should be ok and to request in writing. It’s been 3 months since the verbal request and almost 2 months since the written request. I was told it would be sorted in October but I’ve had nothing yet! Today my work laptop no longer connects to the network (which took me hours to sort out last time). I’m just so fed up and frustrated. I won’t get paid for the time to sort the network issues out either as I’m still off. I called my union and they didn’t even call back. The day gets filled with so many other things I need to prioritise that I didn’t manage to call again and now feel dumb for not chasing it up. I’m just scared they’ll refuse my hours! I could cry over how much stress this has caused me. Any advice or kind words welcome. Feel like giving up on it all but I do love my job.

I’ve been through this. Is there HR department there? I really recommend you speak with them about it x

Speak to ACAS

Do they have a policy for flexible working? It should say what timelines they will adhere to when requests are made. There is national guidelines but a lot of places have internal policies too. Maybe ring ACAS if union not replying. If they don’t follow their own policy you can submit a grievance

Thank you very much. I’ve managed to get back online and it states we should have a formal meeting after 4 weeks which hadn’t happened. I’ve called my union again and will call ACAS today.

@Hollie we can only email HR and they’re very slow. Is that how you resolved it in the end?

@Louise thank you, managed to check the policy now x

Maybe send them another email stating that you haven’t heard anything and you’ve checked the policy which says 4 weeks so you expect a response within 1 week otherwise you will have no choice but to submit a grievance for their failure to adhere to their own policy

@Louise thank you, I will do that. As much as I don’t want to, but it’s getting ridiculous now. And if the shoe was on the other foot, I know what would happen!

I resolved it in the end by threatening court action a tribunal after feeling forced to hand my notice in. Once I said I was doing that they sorted me within a week x if you want I can show you my email I sent into HR on it if you want to msg me email address x

If your in the uk there is laws that protect you and sounds like you would win in a tribunal so deffo speak to HR about it and maybe reference some of the laws around flexible working requests and how they have to responded to within a certain time frame. You’d win alone by them not replying to you within the legal timeframe x
