Milk

How much is too much !🫠 My LO is 4months and is drinking 8oz bottles 4/5 times a day, he is draining them and drinks it in about 10minutes (unless he gets distracted) he cries after his bottle like he’s still hungry! we upped his bottles when he’s done this previously but is doing 9oz bottles too much for his age?

When I saw a tongue tie practitioner for my little one she also specialised in feeding. She told me that a feed should take about 25ish minutes when doing pace feeding. Too fast and it doesn’t give time for them to realise that they are full and hence they drink more than they need. This could be the case for your boy as 10 minutes sounds quite fast. You may want to consider what teat size you are using as it might be too fast for him.

If the baby’s hungry give them what they want. At 4 month we started weaning due to allergy’s but my boy drank 5 8-9oz bottles a day had porridge for breakfast and 3 snacks a day, he a chunky boy but happiest when he’s a full belly. He’s now 7 months on 3 meals a day 6 snacks and 3 9 oz bottles with water in between. If it’s too much he’ll be sick as his stomach will not hold it, you can always try, better to have a settled full belly 🥰Xxx

My doctor said as long as they doesn't spit up the milk after a meal she's not eating too much. If your baby is keeping it down you should be fine.

My baby is 4 months old as well but he only drinks 5.5 oz 6 times a day. My pediatrician said he is supposed to drink 8oz. If your baby is demanding more, then he’s just a bigger feeder. I use a slower nipple flow for my baby to drink slower; if not, he’ll finish the bottle within 10mins

I spoke to my HV about this yesterday as I was getting him weighed and he seems to be drinking a lot and she said because his weight is consistent and on the right line that he clearly needs the calories so it's fine to keep feeding him what he wants. So for piece of mind you could book in a weight check but if he's hungry then I'd feed him Also wondering if he's looking for comfort too...anymore milk and my boy spits up so I use a dummy and/or cuddles after his bottle.
