I get why you're worried, I was like that too when he first started daycare ...BUT....It's a breech of privacy. I'd be upset if another parent in my son's classroom did that.
I think yall are misunderstanding her. She is asking why is there not a system that all parents can access so EVERYONE can watch/check in on their children from where they are. There are some centers that have and allow this. It wouldn’t be just a nanny cam in a teddy bear situation that mommy would sneak in.
My children aren't in daycare, but I did tour a few. Most had up to the minute monitoring no audio, though. If you are in the States, the larger franchises offer video monitoring.
@Tara that would make more sense if that's the case. Tbh though I personally can't imagine working in any situation where I'm being recorded all day long... Kids or no kids involved. It would be way too stressful for me.
I wouldn’t feel bad about it. I actually worked as a teacher in my home county in public school and all classes had video and audio recording installed. Speaking of small kids it’s child safety against child abuse! Why do we record silly customer support phone calls, but not how our babies who can’t speak are treated? Privacy is for the bathroom!
@Melissa even working in fast food, retail, or even corporate buildings, banks you’re being recorded all day long because those places need security measures. And honestly daycares should have security cameras for not only safety reasons but also legal reasons. I don’t see the harm in them. It’s not about just privacy in one’s home. While yes we want to trust our daycares, shit happens and we still want to protect our babies. I use an in home based daycare and while I trust her I would still love to check in on my children every couple hours but I can’t do that. She’s an amazing woman so it’s definitely not a deal breaker but still.
I've worked retail and fast food, never in a place that had recordings. I'm not saying it shouldn't be done. Just that I personally couldn't do it. *Now that I think about it some of my jobs had a few cameras in specific locations but not everywhere 24/7.
Cameras and I love them
No, my daughter's nursery didn't have them, and tbh not sure I'd like it - if I can view it then so can every other parent. That's weird. If you don't trust the staff then ask yourself why that is
If you feel the need to check up and watch I would say that you are not comfortable with your child being there and would suggest alternative childcare arrangements In the uk it’s not the norm to record staff and the kids. There are cameras on doors for security reasons but not the actual rooms. You will drive yourself mad watching it all the time and probably find it more upsetting doing so.
These types of cameras are not always secure, they can be hacked and anyone can watch your child throughout the day. Most places have very strict guidelines for privacy and having any parent peep in would violate that. In my opinion, if you don’t trust your provider, move on to the next or stay home with your child (easier said than done, I know) but these are the risks you take when putting your child in care, unfortunately.
Privacy is everywhere - some children take their clothes off, some children have behaviours that aren’t any other parents business. Not to mention, depending on staff numbers, you can’t leave the other children to assist a child behind a closed door in the bathroom. Are you in home care or a centre? Maybe a centre is a better fit since there are more eyes looking out for your child.
I don't have kids in daycare but tbh I can understand why you wouldn't be. If you can use recording devices then so can other parents. Imagine how you'd feel to find out another parent was recording at the day care where your child was.
