Thoughts on prep machines?

They can apparently save a lot of time for bottles but I've also read online that the NHS don't approve of them because they only give a shot of hot water

Apparently the water needs to remain above a certain temp for a period of time to kill the bacteria in formula but the prep machines don’t maintain that heat for long enough

The water isn’t hot enough to fully sterilize and get rid of bacteria that’s why the NHS don’t recommend. I personally have bought a self prep bottles for the microwave as I think that will be quicker/easier x

I have tommy tippee perfect prep- it gives a shot of boiling water and you mix the formula so that all the bacteria is absorbed and then warm water- faced no issues

I have used the prep machine on both my children and it is the best thing I ever bought. I plan on using it with this baby also

I had a prep machine with my first but it made his colic worse. Basically what we ended up doing was cooling boiled water and putting it in a flask. When making the bottles we would put in boiling water as a shot then top up with the cooled boiled water. Basically doing the same as the prep machine xx

@Shannon could you share one similar to what you've got? I'd love a quicker method but don't like the sound of the normal ones not killing all bacteria

@Natalie this is fab advice for an alternative thankyou 😊

I had prep machine for both my babies and they were fine. You do what works for you and your baby.

Live got the tommee tippee one ready for baby.

I have bought the Mam self sterilizing anti colic bottles (some good Black Friday deals currently on!). You just fill them with some water and then put them in the microwave (for amount of water and how long in microwave check the website). Ive heard good reviews regarding BF and mam bottles too which swayed my decision xxx
