Teeth aren’t necessary for chewing! We actually chew with our molars which don’t come in for awhile! Some ideas that have worked for us: For breads, we do things that easily dissolve/crumble like pancakes cut into strips. We also did black beans recently, which is a step up from purées in texture. For dairy, you can do yogurt or shredded cheese (thicker shreds). We also do sweet potato or butternut squash egg bites in a muffin tin, which is his favorite.
Their gums are a lot stronger than you think. We got the all clear at 6 months old for our son to start baby lead weaning. Rule of thumb is make sure whatever you’re giving them can be smashed between your fingers. And we’ve had no issues ! He gets his own little kids meals at restaurants now at 10 months old lol.
I’m soooo behind in this area 😭
My 10 month old has no teeth either , so far she has eaten eggs , pasta cut up , banana , rice , chicken cut up , corn peas I give her the toddler Gerber meals that are usually pretty soft and cut up sometimes
I'm behind as well and just got told yesterday that she has to be on 100% table foods by 13 months or she can't stay at daycare. That seems extreme to me??? So I'm extra stressed now and don't know what to do. She's also 10 months and has no teeth. And I know they don't NEED teeth but I'm pretty sure having that drive to gnaw on things from teething probably helps a LOT. My issue is we try to give her things but she rarely actually chews and swallows. She just plays with her food. So we have to keep giving formula to make sure she's getting enough nutrition. And yes I have Solid starts and that's NOT helping. We prepare the food like it says, but she doesn't eat the food, only plays. I think if her pincer grasp was better, this would be easier too. She just smushes most things when she closes her hand. So yeah I'm here in the trenches with you mama 😭
Check out solid start, either their app or in Instagram. They may have some suggestions. My son only has his two bottom teeth and does great with cucumbers cut into quarters (you can give him a spear if that's what you're comfortable with), steamed vegetables cut into quarters or bite size, pasta, and meat. Basically anything that's soft enough for him to mash with his gums except for the cucumbers. I honestly didn't know how he manages the cucumbers. Lol
