Depends on which one you get, appropriate for your hormonal balance - you mentioned issues with pills, which means the wrong type was given.. saying from experience. Will be uncomfortable feeling at the beginning and might be bleeding, but consult with a doctor, they will send you anyway consent form where all information will be included about side effects and do's and don'ts ;)

If it’s the copper coil it’s acts as a localised spermicide so you should have no negative effects.

The mirena coil is
hormone based and although it is less likely than tablets which work on a systemic level there is still the potential for a fluctuation in your weight, spotting, hormone imbalance etc.
