Any coughing toddlers right now?

So my 3 year old little girl has been sick w a really bad cold for over 3 weeks now and I need help.. I took her to the DR 2x already for the same reason and they said I can't give her any cough medicine since she's too young and I already knew this. So what I've been doing in the mean time was giving her the zarbees cold and cough syrup + mucus help. But so far it only works like 50% of the time. I cut out the watered down juice and she's only drinking water or warm lemon tea w a bit of honey. What are y'all mommas doing for more home remedies, especially when the cough is really bad at night? Last night was really bad, I didn't sleep... I just want her to get better so I can put her back in daycare. Thanks in advance

For night, trust me and just do it..dice up an onion, leave it on a plate on a bed side table next to where she sleeps. It works. She won’t cough all night. Can even do two onions. It releases that sting in the air that makes your eyes water when you’re cutting them, except it does something to the air that just feels like it’s clearing your air way. That’s the best way I can explain it lol she will have a good sleep and break from coughing I also give a teaspoon of honey during the day, helps to coat their throat and relieve any itchy feeling causing more coughing I also use a humidifier in my boys room at night

Children’s Zyrtec. A cold forces your body to release histamine. An anti-histamine will slow down the release and let your LO sleep and feel better. Just follow dosage according to your child’s age.

Honestly my 2 and 3 yr old had a cough for 2 months, and mucus. They had walking pneumonia. Worse at night. They couldn’t sleep. Diagnosed at pediatricians office after telling them symptoms and having them listen to their breathing. Idc what anyone says, zarbees/hylands , any of that, is not gonna work. Just costing you money. Pediatric pneumonia is going around really bad right now. We went to urgent care twice and doctor twice before being diagnosed. Only thing that helped them was 2 antibiotics and a nebulizer/breathing treatment with albuterol in it. Maybe get a second opinion. Cool mist humidifier, and something like vicks or zarbees chest rub applied to feet and chest can be soothing. But you probably need antibiotics.. Try to start giving her elderberry syrup everyday especially during cold and flu season. And local honey

@Chloe hi, how did the Drs determine that it was walking pneumonia? The DR listened to her chest too and was like yeah she's okay. But then that night she was coughing up a storm to where it sounds like she's gonna cough up a lung, that's why I was so worried. Did your kiddos cough during the day too or just the evenings? Mine is only coughing at night but still really hard to where it's hard for her to fall asleep fast. It'll take like about 30 min after the cough settles and then a little bit of sleep but barely

@Chloe also which antibiotics did dr recommend for your kiddos? I was asking the DR about that too and they said she didn't need any but I beg to differ

Claritin, Hyland cold tablets and the kids throat pop suckers

@Veronica the fact that it was going on for 2+ months and wasn’t getting better with anything I did and when he listened to their breathing from their chest and back, he said he heard crackling noises in their lungs. They also had double ear infections (they never complained about their ears or even cried or pulled at them) which pneumonia can cause ear infection. Azithromycin and amoxicillin is what they took. The azithromycin was really important as it’s one of the only anti biotic effective against the walking pneumonia. And yes they coughed during the day too but it was way worse at night. If the cough goes on for longer than a month despite all the home remedies then it’s really not normal and u should definitely take her to a different doctor. I hope u figure out whats wrong!
