My sister is due in Feb and has the same blood type and she is having the injection. If you have negative blood type and baby has positive your immune system will probably make antibodies against the babys blood cells. Apparently its not much of a problem in first pregnancy but can cause complications in subsequent pregnancies. The injection will stop this from happening. I'm o negative so I'll be in the same boat
Nothing to worry about. In some areas they can test the baby's blood by taking a sample of your blood. If the baby is also negative then you don't need any further treatment. If the baby is positive then they'll want to give you anti-D usually around 28 weeks and then again when the baby is born. If you have any incidents where you have a blow to the tummy like a fall or a car accident then they would give it again to avoid you being sensitized to the baby's blood. Worth noting it's not an issue for the current baby, only any future babies that are also positive.
Thank you guys so much really put my mind at ease about it all 😘
I am O-negative and i am on my 3rd pregnancy (10weeks). my first 2 pregnancies i had a blood test to find out my baby had positive blood and i had to have an injection while pregnant and one at birth if i remember correctly. just make sure if you have any bleeding or bumps to the stomach you contact EPU or midwives directly as they may be concerned but honestly it’s not as scary as it sounds when you first hear about it🫶🏻
I'm r a negative
