Weaning

Looking for a bit of advise please (please be kind) .. I am struggling with weaning a little bit. My little one has just turned 7 months. How many “meals” should I be giving him a day? .. I’ve started to do 2 and he still has 4 bottles a day? .. I am terrified of BLW, although baby is starting to have more solids and doing well with them. Feel slightly useless as just don’t know what the right way to do is. 🥴😩

Take your little ones lead every baby is different. We are now on 3 meals a day but he still has 5 bottles a day and I'm not planning on dropping a bottle until he shows he's not interested in it/ starts drinking less etc. there really is no right way we do a mix of purees and finger foods and that works for us slowly moving to more BLW as I feel comfortable you don't have to fully go for it but by bit as you feel comfortable x

@Flo thank you so much, yes I am starting to feel a bit more comfortable with finger foods, so give him the option if he wants them. Sometimes he’s not interested in them and I don’t force him. Thanks so much, what you do is very similar to us so makes me feel a bit better. Was starting to think I was just doing everything wrong. It’s all a bit of a mind field 😂😩🙈

It’s completely up to you, the goal is to end at 3 meals by 1, but when and how you get there is up to you. For us personally, my baby girl is food obsessed, therefore, we went straight in with BLW modifying whatever I’m eating, so she’s been on 3 meals a day for about a month. And she’s still Bf regularly x

Completely upto you, we're increasing gradually so doing bf only atm and will increase to 2 then 3 meals a day each month. By the the she's one hoping too have established 3 meals and blw. Right now we're still doing purees

Go with your own gut and flow, everyone’s different. My little one is 7.5 months and it’s hard to fit in 3 meals (we’re breastfeeding too) with feeds, naps and any other activities. Sometimes we do 3, most of the time it’s 2 and maybe a snack if she’s eyeing me eating a biscuit as I feel guilty otherwise! My little one doesn’t have teeth so we’re still doing purees and she likes to take the spoon herself. As for finger food we’ve done some soft veg and things on yummy little belly’s Instagram like potato tots and she’s happy enough! To be honest I think 3 times in the high chair is a bit much right now.

The Ella’s kitchen melty sticks are good too

I feel the exact same. It’s very overwhelming I was smashing motherhood before weaning 😂 she slept, she had a “routine” which she got herself into. Aka, nap / feeding times consistent. Now I’ve introduced food and put her in her own room it’s all gone to pot 😂 I started BLW found she wasn’t eating much if anything and gagged a lot so I’ve stopped it. She’s now on the 7month+ purées (has been for a few weeks and is only 7 month tomorrow) and finger foods. I tend to do 2 meals a day, always breakfast and either lunch or dinner. But sometimes will do 3. I’ve just dropped a bottle (5 to 4) a) because the back of the formula tin freaked me out saying she should be on 3 bottles a day at 7 months (yes I know it’s a guideline) but also because I found she wasn’t interested in food being so full up on milk. & yes “milk is priority until 1” but if I always prioritised it she’d still not be eating at 1 😂 so we’ve dropped to 4 feeds and she’s eating a lot more food and enjoying it x

I guess my point is, there’s no right way. We’re all just winging it, do what you think is best and go with it I’m sure naturally they will drop their milk intake when they have more food and however and whenever we introduce solids baby will get there! ♥️

Also, don’t know about you guys, but sometimes it’s a fight to get my little one in the high chair. So I find if she’s not up for it we don’t bother!
