Teething in newborn (1 week)

My son is only 1 week old, tonight he hasn't been able to be settled. I've thought he was hungry because he kept knawing at his fist and fingers but when I go to feed him he would latch on for a few seconds and drink way to quick and make himself cough and spit up. Before tonight when I would give him a Pacifier he would spit it out and not take it but tonight he is and sucking on it hard. Could he be teething? It seems like he is constantly hungry but when I feed he doesn't want it. I'm not sure what to do....😭😭

it’s cluster feeding and also probably some gas or backed up poop

Hi mama! He’s cluster feeding they do this to bring in more of your milk supply since it works by demand. It’s very tough 🫣 but it gets better

It’s unlikely he is teething. It’s very rare to have teeth at this age, although my mom says my brother was allegedly born with one tooth 🤔 I agree with the others it does sound like cluster feeding

i’d bet cluster feeding. they have a growth spurt day 3, 7, & 10. it is tough but you’ll get through it! (almost made me quit BF lol) but you’re doing amazing. congratulations on your new baby!

The coughing and spit up your let down may be very fast. He is still figuring out how to control your flow of milk. You could pump for a few mins first to see if it helps him stay latched and drink. Unlikely to be teething. When they chew on hands this young it is a hunger sign. Just keep putting baby to the breast! Figuring out how to lay down in a bed side lying and feed baby will save your shoulders.
