Cat going into bathroom trash.

Started happening the other day out of no where. And it’s really starting to piss me off. It’s only been one bathroom for a couple days. And today. It was all 3 bathroom trash cans. She loves ear cleaners and tissue paper with snot in it. It’s disgusting. I come into bathroom and it’s just a gigantic mess. Our one bathroom has the food and water in it. I had to put her water bowl into the shower bc she keeps playing with the water and making a huge puddle. So I can’t close one of the bathrooms. Which only solves the 2 out of 3 bathroom trash issues. How do I get her to stop without having to purchase a new trash can. We don’t have lids on these bins and I really don’t want to purchase 3 new ones. I also do like having all the doors open in the house. I don’t like closed doors. She’s also started getting into my 2 year olds bed and destroying the bedding. She’s acting out. Nothing has changed in our lives. Other then me being 7 months pregnant.

The cat is acting out because you are pregnant. It’s that simple. Trash cans with lids is the most fool proof solution. The other simple option is citrus. Cats hate the smell of citrus. Just know actually eating citrus fruit can make them sick. So it’s usually easiest to stick Orange peels or orange air freshener pods inside the trash can. Stick to citrus and avoid essential oils or onions. A lot of people suggest essential oils and onions and those can be deadly to a cat.

I was going to suggest citrus. Just know you have to repeat application regularly until they get out of the habit. Try finding other toys to keep your cat occupied. Sounds like they are acting out because they are bored. Maybe you can find some toys your cat would enjoy that are a little more self propelled (cause we all know how hard it is to find time to play with the cats around baby's birth).

Can you just hide the trash can under the sink?

@Alexus I didn’t even think of that! Smart but impractical. Maybe for a bit I’ll do that and then take it back out when the interest is gone. Thank you!

@Miriam sadly our cat is weird asf. She goes after onions and citrus! I tried the spraying of the trash can and it didn’t stop her. I put it in, on and around. She still went in the trash 😂 little bugger.

I have a cat that will go after anything green, they can be weird. She will steal lettuce, kale, spinach and leave it all over the kitchen.
