Stuck up mum or normal? šŸ¤£

So Iā€™ve been taking my toddler to a music group once a week, heā€™s only 14 months old so heā€™s going through the grabbing phase! Weā€™ve been teaching him ā€œgentle handsā€ which heā€™s getting the hang of really well. Basically my toddler was touching this little girls (10mo) hair clip very gently and he was leaning on her smiling and her mum came over and took her away. My little boy obviously took an interest in her and the baby seemed fine with it! He tried to hand her a toy and then touched her arm and her mum tutted and took her little girl away again šŸ¤£ I went over to her and said Iā€™m sorry if my little boy is bothering you, heā€™s just playing but Iā€™ll try and keep him away. Anyway the group leader said to the other mum ā€œyouā€™ll be humbled in 5-6 months time when itā€™s your turn, itā€™s all developmentally appropriate behaviourā€ and laughed, and the mum said ā€œI wonā€™t let my baby do thatā€ šŸ™„ Anyway Iā€™m feeling really self conscious, Iā€™m a first time mum and I feel like Iā€™m doing it wrong. Should I be more proactive in not letting my baby touch other babies? I personally feel like itā€™s good for them to interact with each other. Obviously I stay close enough that I can grab his hand if I can see heā€™s about to throw something or be a bit rough. But I just donā€™t know if sheā€™s overreacting or Iā€™m too relaxed?

I think she sounds rude and like the group leader saidā€¦ her time will come to be humbled šŸ˜… ā€œI wonā€™t let my baby do thatā€ ok good luck to her šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ I think itā€™s important to teach gentle hands like you are- my 14 month old is very grabby but I just keep enforcing the ā€œgentleā€ hands approach. I wouldnā€™t worry x x

ā€œI wonā€™t let my baby do thatā€ thatā€™s a wild thing to say šŸ˜‚ sheā€™s in for a bumpy ride for sure. Donā€™t worry about it momma x

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ she will be humbled You're doing great! Don't worry about it

You sound like you were doing exactly the right things and that mum is the one with the problem.

Unpopular opinion maybe but I don't think I'd let my 1 year old go up and touch another younger baby if I didn't know them or mum, 1 because of germs (he's literally full of them) 2- you don't know if that child has any health issues 3- it literally takes seconds for a touch to turn into a smack or a grab I wouldn't be happy if a 2/3 year old came up touching my son and getting in his face, he probably wouldn't be either. I would have distracted him with something else, especially after the first time she moved her away like that was a gentle please don't do that. I probably wouldn't have come out with that comment but maybe she was just abit shocked you kept letting him go to her when she moved her. Not saying you're in the wrong we all Parent differently and my oldest was a touchy child always interested in other children and felt I was always moving him out of babies ways at play groups... but he was quite tactile. My second isn't really bothered with other children.
