Formula

Is it normal for baby to be spitting up when starting formula? I am not producing enough breastmilk, so we are giving her 2oz of breastmilk, then .5oz of formula (alimentum) after she finishes the 2oz. She’s been on it for 48hrs but she seems to spit up more now that we’ve introduced a bit of formula. Looking for some insight! Thx!

Which formula are you using? Could just be her body getting used to it since it’s so new. Is she spitting up a lot or just small amounts? If it’s just a little I would just give it time, or give her less, could be too much since formula is heavier than breastmilk.

It is totally normal for them to spit up more when introducing formula. When we switched my son’s formula his spit up was really bad in the beginning, but after a week it got much better. It takes babies about two weeks to adjust to a change like adding in or changing formula. It will get better! 🤍

Formula is a bit more difficult to digest than breast milk! Maybe try warming it after letting the bottle sit for a few minutes (let the air bubbles settle in the bottle) and keep her sitting up while feeding and burping and for some time after (20-30 minutes if you can). You can also try paced feeding as well to help her slow down if she’s drinking too quickly 😊

@Christy alimentum because I’m dairy free - so wanted to give her something that is lactose free and sensitive

@Gabriella thank you 💕

My 3 week old started in similac and then I tried parents choice, because she was spitting up so much and having bad gas. I just switched over to Kabria this week and she loves it, she has minimal spitting now, and she’s less gassy, it’s goat based so it’s easier for her to digest

Most likely her body just getting used to the change.
