Supplementing with formula

Mamas who are supplementing with formula what does that schedule look like? I’ve exclusively breastfed baby for almost 5 months but I get my period every 2 weeks and my supply takes a hit every time. I’m just about managing to keep up with him but I’m exhausted and my boobs hurt and I keep looking at the formula box in our cupboard I got for emergencies and then I talk myself out of it I don’t know what to do or if I’m ready to give in yet 😕 I’ve got 3 days worth of frozen milk left to dip into. can anyone who’s been on a similar journey give me some advice or words of wisdom I’m feeling so defeated 😔

Are you routinely pumping? And are you looking to always supplement? Or just when your supply needs topping up? I'm currently on a 6 bottle day, 3 expressed and 3 forumla. Forumla is given through the day time and expressed is first feed, evening feed and last feed. I premake my bottles in the morning and then store in the fridge. As long as they are used within 24 hours. This makes it easier to just grab when needed and not faff around with boiling the kettle and waiting for it to cool. My LG is on 4oz breast milk bottles and 150ml formula bottles she weighs around 6.2kg. Hope this helps, sorry your breastfeeding journey isn't going as planned, mine didn't either xx

@Jenny I’ve been pumping since he was born and also latching baby. He has 150ml expressed now because he wasn’t gaining weight fast enough and dropped centiles now I’m struggling to keep up with his new amounts. When it comes to how often to supplement I don’t know because I don’t know if I introduce it I have to have a routine with it or not because I don’t want to mess his stomach up either and also what if he doesn’t like it? I feel like I’m starting from square one all over again 😩 what do you do when you go out?

When we go out, I take the formula bottles that ive made up and keep in a cool bag with ice packs. I then take a bottle warmer (Inoby). However I haven't yet been out longer than around 4 hours so normally only need to take 1 feed with me. If I'm going out longer I might look at taking the ready made formula so I don't need to keep it cool. I've implemented a routine, and she feeds around every 2-3 hours throughout the day and sleeps from 8pm-7am

@Jenny thank you ☺️ x

Hey! I have exclusively pumped for my little one for 4 months since birth due to Latching, weight gain and tongue tie. He’s 5 months today and started combo feeding him a month ago. He currently drinks 150ml every 3 hours and I give him 120ml breastmilk and 30ml pre-made HIPP Organic formula. Would heat the breastmilk first and then had the pre-made into the same bottle then feed. I bought the powdered formula and rapid cool recently to use as pre-made can be expensive! So will pre-make formula and store in the fridge using a hot shot method. I felt guilty but then viewed it as my baby is getting extra vitamins from Formula that he may not be getting from my breastmilk, so best of both! Aiming to increase the formula amount when he is 6 months so will eventually do half/half. X

@Serena thank you sounds the same as our journey he was tongue tied and after he had that sorted he latched beautifully then since October he’s dropped centiles so I upped his feeds and I just can’t keep up now and it’s really sending me into quite a lot of sadness as I’m feeling so much guilt over it. We have powdered formula and I sold my prep machine the other week because we never used it so I think I jinxed us there 🥲 I’ve looked at the rapid cools do you like them? X
