Health visitor visit!!!

how did everyone’s hv visit go for there 12/14 month baby review? I wasn’t slightly happy with mine at all, she had my son who was 13months at the time trying to hold a wooden spoon and control balls with it??? Also asked if he has tried to put anything small (cheerios) through like a bottle etc 🙈 she gave him a pen and tried to get him to draw aswell… Also I few other bizarre things I found she done with him. I knew at the time when she was doing them with him that he wouldn’t be able to do it! Has anyone experienced this?

Is there a review at 12/14 months? We didn't receive any letters or anything about it. He had one review at 9 months and was standard. That'd really advanced for a baby. My baby can't even walk yet how is he going to draw or control balls with a wooden spoon when he can't control his own body just yet? 😂

Hey! That's very different to what we had. I just filled out the questions on the sheet and she just chatted through them with me. LO was never asked to perform tasks like that. Had she been she wouldn't have done them either. So for example I was asked how her speech was and I said she was coming on great but she never said one word when the HV was there at all. Babies act differently when a stranger is around and she should know that.

@Janine yeah it was so weird Janine! And the more I think about it , it makes me angry 🤣 she was trying to get him to say words aswell , and he was really tired (due his nap) when she arrived. So she marked him down for all the things he wasn’t doing x

@Tatiana yeah there normally is! I thought the same! When I told my sister about it (nursery teacher) she said that’s not right , that sounds more like an assessment for a 3 year old! so I’m just really wondering if anyone else has experienced similar things!

Did you get a letter for this review? We had our 10-12 month review but haven’t heard anything about a 12-14 month one?

Look up ASQ-3 14 month questionnaire. All the things you described are on there. It's not a test, there is no marking down. It's just a screening tool to say this baby is on track with development and this one may need some activities to develop and this baby might have to see a health professional. It's not a judgement on you or your baby if there are things they can't do.

@Reena some of the things she done though a 2 year old probably couldn’t even do so it just doesn’t seem like a fair assessment and the people I’ve spoke to with children my age have not had it!

@Beth yes we got a letter in and two questionnaires to fill in x

@Sam Lynch the point is you don't have to be able to do everything. It's a screening tool that's all. There isn't anything fair or unfair about it. It's not a test and your child not being able to do something isn't a reflection on you. The HV used the appropriate form for the age of your child so there isn't any reason to be unhappy about it.

I got asked if my daughter could use a pen/crayon at her 1 year review, it wasn’t something we had done before, so we tried her and she has done some pictures now and she loves doing it
