How are we supposed to know how much to feed?

My little one is 8 days old and is breastfed however once or maybe twice a day I express and my partner feeds her with a bottle. She’s taking 3.5oz however then starts looking for more either instantly or 45 mins later. 3.5oz seems a lot for an 8 day old, let alone her wanting more. How are we supposed to know?

You can't overfeed at the breast and I say follow baby's hunger cues. Breast milk is thinner than formula and it's more nutritious so it gets absorbed much faster.

@Tattianne that’s not true, my baby was being overfed on breast:)

@Kayla how did you know? Was it from baby’s weight? I really want to try and express for my partner to help but so worried about over feeding her x

His weight wasn’t too bad. He was just puking a lot. Maybe your baby just wants a binky or something to suck on. That is normal for babies:)

Have you looked into paced feeding? It helps them not eat too fast. At 8 days, your baby could be cluster feeding, which could explain why she's wanting more so soon

At 8 days old I was feeding my baby 2.5oz every 3 hr or a lil earlier like 20 min before the 3 hr mark . I was told the more you feed their stomach stretch out to wanting more milk each time so I would say start her back at 2.5oz and if she still act hungry giver her a pacifier for her to just suck on for comfort

Maybe baby is looking for comfort when wanting to suckle instead of hungry.
