Car seat safety group on Facebook is good for information, I’ve never posted on it as the admin can sometimes be awful with the way they speak to people, but to just read through some posts it’s very informative.
will the Midwives help make sure baby is fitted properly before leaving hospital?
No, midwives are not trained in car seat safety.
They do check, and they might catch some obvious errors if there are any, but they don’t have relevant training and they can sometimes give bad advice
@Sophie not all will check, my hospital didn’t either time. In fact with my first baby I asked them to check and was told they weren’t allowed to as they were not qualified.
The only other thing to note is that in almost all infant carriers you should pull baby down nappy to buckle before strapping them in
@N 💞 ah, ok. At least they knew their limitations! Our little boy was checked in his seat when we left the hospital and to be fair, the midwife did pick up on the fact that my partner hadn’t strapped him in tight enough at all. I think I was so out of it at the time that I didn’t even check myself 🤦♀️ so it worked in our favour but it’s not great practice that they give advice without the right training
Have you already got a car seat? How to fit baby in will depend on what seat it is.
