Can a shop get your name when using Apple Pay?

My daughter got a little sick in a shop yesterday. I couldn’t find anyone to tell about it and my daughter was distressed so I couldn’t leave her and she wouldn’t move. I told a construction worker who came by and he went and got a staff member who cleaned it up. I wanted to get out of there as soon as possible in case she was sick again so I go what I need and left. I paid with Apple Pay and thought no more about the situation until I seen that an employee from the shop had looked up my profile on LinkedIn. How is this possible? I thought this information was secure?

Ur this sounds like a huge confidentiality/GDPR breach and I would make a complaint! People from a shop shouldn’t be searching your details online with confidential financial information you have given.

@Madeleine I know! It has really freaked me out! I don’t understand how this could have happened and it’s making me very paranoid. My only concern is that if I raise the issue and they say I have no proof that it could be a total coincidence, which there is no way that it is. Also, if the person has my name might they also have my contact information? What if they were to come after me then. When you pay online with Apple it has your email address, address, phone number. It’s really freaked me out.

Having worked with e-commerce, when you purchase online, your name address and contact details can be seen by the business (as they will need to send an order confirmation and ship to you). Bank details absolutely not though so don’t worry there. It would be illegal for an employee to do anything with said details I believe, but human nature and all…anyway don’t be put off, it’s the same as your name and address being on a package coming to your house. I would say in this case it depends on the size of the store, huge retailer? Maybe complain. Independent? Not sure what there is to do. I completely understand how you may feel violated but try not to stress too much and make sure you don’t reuse passwords anywhere (you shouldn’t do this anyway) x
