Today I learned some people think putting your underwear in the washing machine with other clothes is gross.

I can get behind most cleanliness things but not washing your underwear in the machine or with other clothes might just be too far. Like are you shitting your drawers?

Fair do's if they'd come on their period unexpectedly. Or, are maybe poorly & had an accident that wayšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Even then the options are; hand wash them first & then pop them into the washer on a 60Ā° wash {with some antibacterial stain remover} or, simply throw them in the binšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Or, are they referring to the sexy lingerie that are classed as being 'delicates' & need to be washed on a special setting?šŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø Just standard cotton granny pants, don't need special treatmentšŸ˜…

Itā€™s a non issue for me we wash our underwear with all of our other clothes however if we have things like mats that people walk on in our home or mop heads etc things that donā€™t go on the body we do wash things like that separately. We donā€™t have enough dirty underwearā€™s in our home at one time to fill our massive machine and Iā€™m not putting a few items that donā€™t take up much space in unless thereā€™s a very good reason for doing so other than it being thought of as gross by some šŸ„“šŸ«  I do hand wash my bras because I have very expensive bras due to my size I shop at specialty lingerie stores and Iā€™ve been instructed to do that with them so that they last for a long time.

Just standard soap gets rid of anything youā€™d need to wash off unless youā€™re spilling acid or something on your underwear. When my baby has a blowout I just rinse the clothes first and then wash them normally šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Do these people do small loads of laundry with underwear or do they wait til they have a ton of underwear to wash at oncešŸ¤” sounds like a lot of extra laundry

@Victoria~ just not washing them in the washer at all, apparently thatā€™s gross only that confuses me because what are you doing in your underwear and how are you washing it if not in the machine?

So I was brought up this way, it is the rule in both my mum and grandmothers house (which I follow whenever I stay there). But not in my home,I wash with my partners clothes and Iā€™m for sure not handwashing his boxers so no point in just doing mine. If I have a period accident though obvs I hand wash and then it will go in machine.

@Kee period stuff makes sense for sure.

@ZainabšŸ—ļø maybe in a sink? Or a bucket? How is it better to wash them anywhere else I donā€™t get it šŸ˜

omg no. Total waste of time to me if I canā€™t just mix it all.

I was taught to wash undies and bed clothes in the machine, but as a separate load for pH balance and sanitary purposes. Think about all the things your outdoor clothes come into contact with (sitting on public transit/in vehicles, hair/dander from pets, grass/dirt, etc.) that you wouldn't want on the fabrics closest to your skin/sensitive areas. Plus, some people use fabric softener religiously (e.g., my partner), and I'd prefer not to use it on my undies. So, separate loads allow us both to be happy. Also, hot vs cold wash for separate things. So yeah... Several practical reasons.

My new house has the washer in the bathroom and I had a friend comment that thatā€™s gross lol because ā€œpoop fumes will touch the clothesā€ ??? šŸ˜‚

@Janelle oh yeah I donā€™t use fabric softener because itā€™s bad for the machine, we use vinegar. I get separate loads but I donā€™t get why not at all in the washer.

@Kourtney ours is in our bathroom. I imagine that donā€™t keep anything in their bathroom.

I pre-wash my period panties but thatā€™s it

The only time Iā€™ve washed other clothes is either if my son had a blow out (when he was younger he hasnā€™t had one in a long time haha) but even that was washed with like the cover for his changing table. Iā€™ve washed a couple things though like when Iā€™ve bled through, but Iā€™ll try to still pair them with the pants/ if I bled through the sheets/blanket. So Iā€™m not just wasting detergent on like 3 things

If theres anything weird on any clothes (blood, spit up, poop, whatever) I make use of my quick wash setting on those items first before I add the rest of the clothes. I already seperate towels etc. Otherwise the point of the washing machine is for cleaning so clothes are washed with clothes.

I wash clothes and underwear together. Jeans and towels get separated though because jeans will destroy your soft fabrics. Socks go in with towels with some vinegar. That's where I draw the line lol. But if my clothes didn't come out evenly clean then I'd say it's time for a new washer or maintenance.

I wash my baby's cloth diapers in the machine šŸ¤£šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™€ļø Our dirty underwear goes in with our regular clothes. Things like kitchen mats and bathroom mats get washed as a separate load. Towels are a separate load. Bedding is a separate load and actually I wash those with couch covers. But underwear? No. Not a separate load.

Underwearā€™s shouldnā€™t be an issue as they are yours that you wear. Now dirty floor towels and cleaning towels, thatā€™s different

@Chris I wash cloth diapers in our machine too but I do wash them alone or separate since babies poop & pee is in them.

@Janelle I like this idea of washing underwear with bed Linens and clothing because if I put my sheets in with underwear that would take up much more space than a few underwear would

@Donna same. I wash her diapers separately but with my cloth pads.

@Chris yeah I wash the diapers and cloth pads together also

So how do they wash their towels an washclothes?

We do baby clothes by themselves, we do bedding and towels and kitchen rags/baby food rags on a separate load.. we wash bedding and towels on a higher temperature. Bur underwear goes in our regulars, as long as it isn't a cold quick wash it's fine? Period stuff or baby accident stuff gets a rinse and a machine rinse with stain remover but then goes on its proper cycle sharing with it's friends.

Any and all clothes get washed together in my house! Unless my LO has a blowout then Iā€™ll wash those clothes separately. We was all our household items separately, but Iā€™m not making more work for myself by washing EVERYTHING separately šŸ˜…

@Janelle but...the clothes are clean when they come out. So who cares if they were dirty going in? Obviously they were dirty, that's why you're washing them.

My ex had this thing about putting socks with knickers.. best part was that she didnā€™t want to wash her own clothes and when she found out I was washing my socks and knickers in the same wash she started berating me and made me separate them all because she didnā€™t want her pants with socks.. didnā€™t matter that bleach was used in every wash! It really annoyed me because Iā€™d have to split laundry just so there was enough to wash both things separate. Even when I kicked her out and she was coming to do her laundry, she wanted to continue splitting her underwear even though she wasnā€™t paying for soap, softener or electric! I made her wash things together then ultimately made her use the laundrette! Now everything goes together in 1 loadšŸ™„

I hand wash my babyā€™s cloth diapers. I have a special station at home made for hand washing clothes so I use it a lot.

I just sort everyoneā€™s clothes per the individual that wears them. Thatā€™s enough for my ocd to say itā€™s all fine & clean after itā€™s done in the washer LOL

I don't have time or the patience to be doing separate loads of hand washing stuff, everything goes in at once
