Puppy Strangles?!?!?
Has anyone ever had a puppy or young dog (our girl is 6 months) suddenly come down with the strangles as they like to call it?????!
Because…… EEWWW EW FUCKITY EW. My beautiful baby doodle has bald patches with thick scabs and lesions oozing pus on like 12 different parts of her body!!!! Mostly ears, nose, lips, gums and cheeks, chin, feet, all four legs on the back of her knees, and her two front armpits as well.
The first Vet who saw her was inexperienced and MAJORLY misdiagnosed her. It delay her treatment by an entire week because she gave her meds that we had to detox her from in order to give her the correct medication otherwise the combo of the two would make her kidneys fail. I’m so pissed about that! I used to be a Vet Tech Assistant and I never saw one of these cases. And I certainly never had ANY sort of severe allergy cause blisters and lesions and swollen lymph nodes overnight. I told her I thought it was strangles and she blew me off!! it cost us 8,000 to have her hospitalized because of how severe it got due to the treatment being delayed when she could’ve started the correct treatment before it affected her so severely. her nose and ears were actively bleeding and ozzing on that first visit. the skin was completely gone from her nose, she had a fever and swollen lymph nodes. I begged for testing but she brushed it off and told me not to worry. gave me anti inflammatories and special shampoo. pffft!!! That visit cost $372 dollars for her to ignore my very valid and accurate concerns and delayed her the urgent care she needed. UGHHHHH
has anyone had to deal with strangles? I need a sympathy buddy 😓
I have not been in this exact position ever but I do however heavily sympathize with how frustrating it is to have to try to fight & advocate for your concerns for your animal to professionals who should be willing to hear you out the first time. 🥲 it’s unfortunately super common. My suggestion is to always be willing to seek a new vet’s office, looking for ones where staff have fear free certifications will help ya find educated and compassionate providers for sure! https://fearfreepets.com/resources/directory/
