Daycare

I need some advice so I recently got offered a position at a daycare and I can take my 6m with me the only thing is that it’s less than what I was getting paid before, no benefits, no vacation time/sick time until I have one year of employment the ratio is 1-12. We agreed I was going to be in the infant room she called me today saying that she can’t put me in the infant room since my son will be there but she had told me that I would be in one of the infant rooms anyways she wants me in the toddler room. Now I’m hesitating if to take the job I’m still going to be paying child care and my bills In the other hand I’m thinking of opening a home daycare just need to figure out what I need and etc What should I do I like being independent but also be there for my child and also support financially!!

1-12 seems a bit high for ratio in the infant/toddler classroom. I also work at a daycare and our ratio is 1-4 for IT. I could see why the person would want you to not be in the same room as your child because of nepotism. It was the same for me when my kids are in childcare. For me, I like it because I can work, provide for my girls and my girls development are progressing really well. One the other hand, childcare is expensive and sometimes I feel like I’m working to just pay for tuition.

Hmm I wouldn’t be fond of taking care of a lot of toddlers if you have an infant because toddlers get crazy sick sometimes and are still sent into daycare. Having a home daycare can take a while and be hard. Can I give you a suggestion? Message me and I can get you a good child care gig! Especially if you’re in California.

Always use your job to pay for your goals. However, the ratio with infants is 1:4 & toddlers should be 1:12 check with her before starting. It’s always great to have baby there while you’re making money. Good luck on your future endeavors ✨
