Competitive nursery places

Has anyone signed their child up for multiple nurseries? Recently a nursery near us has closed short notice and an acquaintance is having to find a place for her child very last minute. This got us worried about the same happening to us in the future! We have viewed a few and found some we like and have got signed up for one. We are debating signing up for a second nursery place just in case anything like this happens with our first choice nursery and cancelling it nearer the time and taking the hit on the deposit but not sure.....anyone done this?

That seems a bit unfair on the nurseries to be honest. The funding has hit their finances hard and whilst it’s unlucky for your friend, I think it’s rare to have that situation

It's really normal to do this as you don't know when they'll have space for your child. If they call you to offer a space but you're already happy with another nursery just tell them that and they'll move on to the next person in their very long list. At least where we lived in London it was absolutely expected that you'd be on several waiting lists.

I think being on waiting lists of multiple is fine. But it’s not fine to accept places at 2 for a future accept date

Not something I would ever do, mainly because I wouldn’t want to loose my deposit. I think for me you pick your nursery that you are happy with and that’s right for you and you stick with that decision. Who knows what will happen in the future at any point, can’t really live life like that x
