Anyone else's 3-yr-old starting to read?

First, I have NO judgement for those who aren't, I know reading this early is unusual. Just wondering if others have little who are starting to read early. My daughter started with very simple books just before Thanksgiving, and I'm really proud of her! I'm also a bit worried about what it'll mean when she goes to school, especially since I've heard that so many start kindergarten not even knowing their ABCs and colors. I guess I'm just wanting to connect with other parents of early readers.

Hi! Yes! My 3 y/o is also starting to read. We teach basic phonics at home but she picked up on it very quickly. I don’t see a problem at all, just really teaching her to help others and be kind/patient with others as they also learn to read

Was just wondering the same. My son is not reading yet but he knows all of letters sounds and can say a word that begins with each letter and blended his first 2 letter word recently and i believe that with even a little effort, he will pick up reading quickly. I was wondering the same thing. I don’t want to stop him from learning but I also want him to be with his peers. There is already strong suggesting that maybe we should hold them back to go to kindergarten until 6yo because they would be the youngest in their class. Kind of at a loss.

Yes my 3 year old she loves to read write cook and clean it's odd to me but she loves to help she was preemie as well she can have a full conversation with you she very smart

My daughter is already crying over wanting to go to school

@Destiny that's the opposite of my daughter! I think she'll get there but she's kinda scared of being around other kids in general, unless she knows them well. And she definitely doesn't want to go to school yet. But I'm trying to get her ready for preschool (not going potty yet) because I think she really needs to socialize more with other kids her age.

@Lillie I'm planning to send my daughter to kindergarten at 5. As I said just now, I think she really needs the socialization skills. In our case her best friend will also be starting at the same time, and in the same school, so I think she'd feel left out if I kept her back a year.

My son is in 3K. They're learning how to socialize, share toys and bring home a new virus every week. The teacher suggested BOB books because she thinks our son might have the potential to read and she can only teach to the average of the students. Maybe your daughter can attend Montessori school?

@Mee BOB books are what we just bought for our daughter to start reading. We borrowed the pre-reading skills book from the library and she loved the stories, too. If you give your son screen time, you could try Starfall apps, the games there are what got our daughter started with phonics, although we'd been doing sight words with her already, too.

Thanks for the Starfall tip! We def give way too much screen time 😂
