Giving water to baby - boiled or not?

Hi ladies, I’m finding different guidelines online on whether water needs to be boiled then cooled down before offering to baby. The NHS website states if they’re over 6 months you don’t need to do this but other website states you do up until 12m+. I’m offering her solids from end of this month when she turns 6m and wondering what you ladies do about water? Are you boiling then cooling or can I offer bottled water as a far safe medium?? I know they don’t need lots so just wondering for my peace of mind.

I’ve been told by my family nurse cool booked until 12m+ x

Boiled*

I do it until 12m+ due to how unsafe tap water definitely needs to be sterilised before drinking. Then we moved onto bottled water as we felt it was time we could do that.

After 6months I just did water out of our water filter.

It’s probably different because each countries water quality is different. I’m not at this stage with my baby, but if you’re in the UK, I’d say that what the NHS website says is safe for UK babies. X

Cool booked until 12month + x

I still give cool boiled and mine is 7 months. I personally don’t drink tap water myself so will wait till 1 year to give bottled water to my baby x

I wouldn’t give my baby tap water anyway as 1. I personally don’t think it’s safe for anyone (it’s well known tap water is full of nasty stuff) 2. Bottled water also contains high sodium (naturally) so we’re continuing with boiled water until 12 months then switch to bottled.

@Andreia we have a water filter so before water is boiled it is filtered. That’s the only way I feel okay using tap water.

I just buy baby water at Walmart.

I'm always one to go by the NHS website, so not booked after 6 Months

I give filtered water in the US but I did buy only bottled water whenever we went to countries in Africa and South America

Tap water here in Toronto. It really is dependent on your location.

Where I live (Michigan) our tap water is safe and I’ve used it on all 3 children with no issues, since birth. From 2011 to 2024.
