Weaning

My son turned 5 months old on the 15th July, he takes 6-7oz formula bottles every 3 hours. He started waking for night feeds again and takes the same amount so is clearly hungry not for comfort. He shows all signs of being ready for solids, can sit up completely unassisted for a few minutes before he notices something across the room and throws himself to it😂, tries to grab our food and stares at us eating and smacks his lips whilst we’re eating even if he’s just had a bottle, can grab things and put them to his mouth with ease. He’s only 5 months though and it says 6 months is the ideal age, but if my son can completely sit this early then surely he’s fine to be starting solids? I don’t want to be preventing him from better sleep if it’s solids that he needs but I’m unsure as I don’t want to hurt his stomach if he isn’t. Advice?

My LB was sleeping through the night and he started waking for a feed. So we now give a portion of banana porridge after bath and then bottle after it and he’s sleeping much better. We’ve made our own purées and doing 1 portion every other day to start with just to get him use to the new taste and textures without doing too much. But we started on the porridge before bed about a week ago and we started the odd few spoonfuls a couple of weeks ago xx Ignore any comments you’ll get which you will, as I got the same comments when I posted something about weaning too Do what you think is best for your baby. 6 months is a recommendation, not law xxx

@Katie Thank you! Do you do the porridge every night and then a puree every other day even if giving the porridge at night as well? xx

@Katie I know 6 months isn’t for every baby! He’s quite advanced for his age but obviously I know I can’t see inside his body to know if he’s ready to digest it.. he has every sign that a 6 month old would have and has no tongue thrust reflex either so 🤷‍♀️ xx

Yes every night porridge and then purées every other day for now while getting him used to it. We do bath at 7. Then porridge. Let it settle for 20 mins then bottle and bed xx

I would suggest just seeing how he is. If you notice he’s getting tummy ache and things then stop it. But we stated off with literally 3 spoonfuls of it and we made it just that little bit thicker than milk to start with xx

My boy turned 5 months on the 10th. I've been doing little tasters of puree the last couple of weeks, just the odd spoonfuls here and there. I had lots of fruit and veg to use up so blended it all and put in in ice cube trays so I could just pop one out. I've been doing baby rice and porridge with different puree fruits and he absolutely loves it. If u feel your baby is ready then u do what's right for u x
