Starting solids

My LO is 6 months and we are gonna start with BLW, for his first meals, is it okay if I cook his food using the same pots/blender/utensils we use for our food?

Of course x

You don't need to sterilize with food so unless there's something you know he's allergic to that you tend to eat it's all good!

@Chrissy but since we are just gonna start, I don’t know if he is allergic to some food and I’m worried there might be cross contamination

I more so meant that since you're asking in a BLW group where the idea is you feed the same meal you eat, just don't put allergens in that you haven't tested yet. Soap and water and good cleaning hygiene will make your cookware clean enough.

There won't be cross contamination if you clean the cookware thoroughly. My brother has a severe seafood allergy. We're able to use cookware that has had seafood in it to cook his food, so long as it's properly cleaned, so same applies to babies. If there is a reaction, it's unlikely to be severe at first, just start slow and monitor. Start with one type of food at a time, then introduce more as you go. You can start to mix and match different ingredients that you have already tested into actual meals after a few weeks.

@Chrissy yup but that’s why I said for his FIRST MEALS because I’m not gonna give him exactly the same we eat the first few weeks, I have to test first, not sure if I explained myself correctly

@Melissa thanks 💕

If you're extra concerned, we'll also make sure we haven't made seafood for a few days before he visits, but that's mostly because even contact surfaces like a refrigerator door handle can set him off. But for a baby it's unlikely to be a severe anaphylactic reaction that early. Unless you're aware of severe allergens in the family, you're probably ok to introduce them, just do it under a controlled setting and wait a few days before introducing anything else new after you have done the allergen, just in case. 💜 Some foods may cause a minor reaction like a mouth rash, but it doesn't necessarily mean they are allergic, just FYI. We had this happen with kiwi and when we tried it again a few months later, it was fine.
