Fundal height measurement vs growth scan

Hi ladies This post might provide some reassurance or reduce panic to anyone worried about size. At my 36 week midwife appointment I measured in the 3rd percentile of the fundal height measurement, with no growth from the week 34 measurement. Got referred for a growth scan and the baby is estimated at 3.2kg (77th percentile). Very different from what we expected. The fundal height measurement is clearly inaccurate and the measurements also depend on the position of the baby, so don’t take these results too seriously- a mother’s stomach size and baby’s body size are not always correlated! 🤗

Yes. One week was average, a month later he was off the chart, had scan to reveal average weight but in a breech position (this affected measurement) hence inaccurate fundal height.

My midwife refuses to do fundal height measuring as its so inaccurate 😂

I have a growth scan tomorrow as they said the baby is over the 90th percentile let's see what the scan says.

I wouldn’t have found out my baby is breech without asking for fundal height measurement, that prompted a scan due to the large size, which then prompted the team to propose another scan a month later to decide if he turns and whether I’m a c-section. Though it’s inaccurate, it can still be really useful - I’d still push for measurements. The worse that happens is that they send you in for a scan if small or large.
